Do you have a liminality addiction?

Liminality is the space in between—the threshold between what was and what will be. It’s the season of uncertainty after a major life change, the waiting room between chapters, the moment when an old identity has fallen away but a new one has not yet emerged. We are not meant to live there forever, yet many of us find ourselves lingering in these in-between spaces.

Drawing on Jewish wisdom, Torah, and ancient spiritual insights, Rabbi Josh Franklin explores in a Dvar Torah at @eastendtemple the meaning of liminality and why the Jewish tradition pays such close attention to journeys through the wilderness, periods of waiting, and moments of transition. What can these sacred in-between spaces teach us? When do they help us grow, and when do they become places where we get stuck?

New York City — Rabbi Josh Franklin is coming to you.
Join us at East End Temple on Friday, June 12th for Erev Shabbat services at 6:15 PM, where Rabbi Franklin will be speaking about his groundbreaking new book, Where Are You? Finding Yourself in the Bible.
In this new work, Rabbi Franklin explores one of the most profound and overlooked dimensions of the Torah — metaphysical geography. The places named in our sacred scriptures aren’t simply dots on a map. Eden, Egypt, the wilderness, the mountaintop — these aren’t just landscapes. They are lifescapes. They are mirrors. They are invitations.
For too long, we’ve read the Bible as a book about where people went. Rabbi Franklin invites us to read it as a book about where we are. Because when God calls out Ayeka — “Where are you?” — that question isn’t just for Adam hiding in the garden. It’s for every one of us.
This new lens on biblical places will forever change the way you read Torah — and more importantly, it might just help you see yourself a little more clearly.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience Rabbi Franklin’s teaching live. Come for Shabbat. Come for the wisdom. Come to find yourself. #ayeka #rabbijosh #jewishwisdom #rabbi #jewishnyc

It’s the middle of May and #jewishamericanheritagemonth is in full swing!
One way to celebrate is by reading books by Jewish American authors, like ME!

I’m delighted to see a review posted to THE JEWISH BOOK GARDEN of my book, A PLACE TO PRAY, illustrated by @yukeliart and published by @worthykidsbooks

The story is inspired by the aftermath of the tragic fire that destroyed @middlechurch in New York City and the synagogue, @eastendtemple that opened its doors to share sacred space.

Thank you Jewish Book Garden founders Susan Kusel and Heidi Rabinowitz, for all you do to promote and advocate for Jewish children’s literature, building community and building bridges. Find their substack at: https://jewishbookgarden.substack.com/

Happy Double Heritage Month!

At LUNAR, we honor both our Asian and Jewish heritage year-round, but we like to get extra loud and proud in May because it's both Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month AND Jewish American Heritage Month!

We coined the term "Double Heritage Month", not only to celebrate the serendipity of both heritage months occurring together, but also because we truly view our multiple cultures as "double", not "half / half". So join us this month and beyond in celebrating double the traditions, double the ancestral legacies, and double the community, here at LUNAR ✨

Events:

May 4: Dinner with a Visiting Kaifeng Jew (Seattle)

May 15: 20s and 30s Game Night Shabbat(NYC) @14streety

As a former journalist, it’s always a blast to be on the other side of the desk - answering questions in an interview, instead of asking them! Thank you, my dear friend and amazing author @melissa_stoller for having me on your blog. I really believe that the story-behind-the-story is as compelling as the story itself. Please have a look at Melissa’s website www.MelissaStoller.com or click the link in bio.
