Meet Irene Quevedo, MBA ‘23! As CEO of Operation Jump Start, co-host of the Level Up Latina Podcast, and founder of Wealthy Latinas Life and Career Coaching, Irene is dedicated to creating access and possibility for others. She isn’t just talking about empowerment—she’s doing the work!

“At Operation Jump Start, I’ve spent 17 years helping first-generation students and families access and succeed in higher education. The Level Up Latina Podcast created a space for honest conversations around career, money, culture, family, and leadership. And through Wealthy Latinas Life & Career Coaching, I help women recognize what they’re capable of and build lives and careers that reflect that.” Irene firmly believes that talent is everywhere, but opportunities aren't. That’s where her passion for mentorship, skill-building, and boosting confidence shines.

Why did Irene choose Eastern? “I wanted it to make me a better, more strategic one. Eastern gave me frameworks for strategy, operations, and decision-making that complemented what I’d learned through experience. Personally, completing an MBA while leading an organization and raising a family reminded me that growth doesn’t have an expiration date."

Like many EU students who never step foot on campus, Irene found that the online format fit seamlessly into her busy life as she balanced her career, family, and other commitments. She credited Eastern with making a meaningful graduate degree truly accessible and valued connecting with fellow students sharing similar journeys.

Here’s her powerful message for the alumni community: “I’d challenge us to think about success beyond titles and income: Who benefits because you became successful? Who did you mentor, encourage, hire, or create an opportunity for? To me, that’s where the real value of our education shows up.”

We launched the Conversations with Campolo podcast in the Fall of 2025 to learn from the next generation of faith- and thought-leaders reflecting on Tony’s witness and its relevance for the challenges facing the church and society today. This collaboration with Eastern's Communication Department introduces Tony's inspiring and challenging preaching and teaching to the broader community.

We have a great line-up of guests for Season 2, which we will begin recording this fall. In the meantime, check out Season 1, Episode 1 with Tony's great friend and mentee, Rev. Steve Chalke.

When De'Shon Cooper arrived at Eastern University as a first-year student, he had a "case of the nervous nellies mixed with anxiousness, sprinkled with curiosity, and a dash of doubt that makes for the perfect freshman," he playfully reminisced.

Through the Campolo Center's Fellows Program, De'Shon found “community, purpose, and meaning” at Eastern University.

“With the weekly rhythms we had of devotional time on Monday, our cozy space in Fowler Hall to do homework, the intentional time we had as fellows to check in with one another, [and] the events on our calendar to look forward to helped to keep little old me afloat."

Through the Campolo Center's immersive learning experiences, De'Shon saw faith in action and gained a clearer vision for how God could use his gifts to serve others. The civil rights pilgrimage, in particular, left a lasting impact.

"The highlight of that year without a doubt was the civil rights pilgrimages. As a young man that trip was transformative.”

These experiences have shaped De'Shon's vision for the future. Holding a real estate license in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, he hopes to use his passion for architecture and business to "benefit the lives of many."

Looking back, De'Shon is grateful for the mentors and experiences that helped him discover his calling.

"Thank you Tony, Robert, and Jane for granting us exposure on how to be the hands and feet of God. I guess God was right, Eastern was where I was meant to be."
