Hey lookey here, 2x winners now ! West Seattle Chili Cookoff! Our award winning TLC Chili takes it again. After a 3rd place finish last year, we made a cpl slight tweaks to our recipe. Our TLC is on our daily menu! Come by any day, always a happy hour special ! 7 days a week! The original recipe was made by our @eaaystreetguy during his ol football Sunday Alki Tavern parties. It only got better from one season to the next. Our longtime chef (23 years) @isidrolucatero got a hold of it and improved upon it even more. One day we’ll reveal the recipe! Thx all for your votes and your support of the @westseattlefoodbank ! Big ups to all the @westseattlejunction volunteers and all those that work for and support our WSFB and all the food banks around the region. We luv u! What a fun Harvest Fest today! Great showing by @elliottbaybrewingco , the best 2nd place chili we’ve ever tasted …and last years winner brought the smoke this year @thewestyseattle . 📸 @camillewatson

When u look at our storefront, the black and red…keep in mind it is because of this man Ken Workman, Chief Seattle IV and his people of the Duwamish Tribe. About 10 years ago, he told us that Easy Street and the building it’s in, is made of old growth timbers from this area, this region. “My ancestors are in these walls, on this ceiling, and all around”. He went on to say that he can feel their presence. At the time, we had an ugly storefront. Ken mentioned he liked our logo. Black & Red are also the colors of the Duwamish people. He asked why wasn’t the storefront also Black & Red? We told him that according to our lease, we couldn’t paint any part of the exterior. He then said, “Tell whatever lawyer or landlord or whomever…that Chief Seattle says this corner needs to be Black & Red. Have them call me if they have a problem with it.” We painted it the next day. We did get a call a week later… “Chief Seattle told us too” They said, “You know what, it looks great”. Later that year, our building was designated a preserved landmark. Ken has been a great friend of ours. U might’ve seen him give opening remarks at our @getthatpma party or at the World Sailing Championship at the @nordicmuseum as well as at various @loghousemuseum events. The Landmarks Preservation Board found that the Hamm Building met the criteria for landmark status. See below… 1) It is associated in a significant way with a significant aspect of the cultural, political, or economic heritage of the community, City, state or nation 2) It embodies the distinctive visible characteristics of an architectural style, or period, or of a method of construction; Because of its prominence of spatial location, contrasts of siting, age, or scale, it is an easily identifiable visual feature of its neighborhood or the City and contributes to the distinctive quality or identity of such neighborhood or the City. Thx Chief ❤️ 🖤

Jason and I opened Sonic Boom Records in Seattle 29 years ago today. Looking back, it’s wild that a medium-sized city that already had 20-ish record stores could sustain a 21st. It worked because we were 25, each paid $300 rent, and because Seattle had an incredible community of bands, fans, record labels, radio stations, newspapers, and other small businesses that supported one another. Few cities like that exist anymore, and the further away it gets, the more I realize how lucky we were to do something cool in that time and place. We sold the store in 2016, and I’m thrilled that it’s still there, doing well, and that it smells the same whenever I visit.
