POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Friends, this is a lifelong dream for me! ✨I wrote this children’s book years ago and have been waiting for just the right time and just the right publisher to get it out there in the world. I’m currently working on painting all the illustrations and am having such a great time doing it! I forgot how much I loved to paint (I used to do it all the time before I had kids) and I have currently taken over a chunk of my living room to work on it until I’m finished (a central location helps me get stuff done!). I created an inspiration wall and have loved creating this story.

This is a very special book to me. It is written from my perspective as a little girl, growing up in my grandmother’s garden. She would grow and preserve most of her family’s food, lovingly making meals from scratch from her garden (and fruit trees). Our days together centered around connecting with each other and growing or preparing food, putting laundry on the line, drinking sweet tea and playing cards on the front porch and pulling up extra chairs for the abundance of people that “just so happen” to be in the area around supper time. Food can be such a love language, don’t you agree? I’d say it’s a children’s story, but I think adults will also enjoy reading it on a deeper level, as we understand the importance of family, and our connections to each other and to the food we eat.

I was very close with my grandmother and it was a huge blessing to me that I could read her this story before she passed. She sowed the seeds for homesteading for me and it was the most incredible gift. I cannot wait for my dear friend Janet @sawdustpublishing (you might know her as @timbercreekfarmer) to help me bring this story to life.

I hope you’ll give it a read when it comes out in the fall!

❤️Tiffany

I feel like I hear all the time that we’re supposed to:
✔️pick a niche and stay with it
✔️just share about one thing
✔️don’t talk about too many topics so people can know you by your one thing

Sorry, friends. This isn’t that page. That isn’t our life and this family does not fit in just one box. 😜 One day we might be processing firewood and making haulzhausens, the next day tapping maple trees and making maple syrup or learning to raise turkeys or milking goats or building a farmstand. We might be on an adventure in a volcano or singing at church or working on a farm with our homeschool friends. We could be sitting by the wood stove reading poems, shooting at the archery range, relaxing at a bluegrass festival, rollerblading at a skatepark or making a decorative pie from scratch. You might find our kids learning beekeeping, decorative cake making, gymnastics or photography. Depends upon the day.

And you know what? I don’t find that to be a bad thing. I love that we have different interests for each season and I think it keeps life interesting! I might look into my inbox and find 40 people message me about something as little as my breakfast or something funny that happened on our farm… and it’s usually something random from my stories but I guess-relatable. I hope that you find that on this page. Something relatable and always something different happening because that’s what life is all about- connections and enjoying life.

On this page, you will find the raw and the funny. The real life pains and the absolute joys. You’ll read about motherhood, love, persistence, homesteading, farm animals, pizza 😂, kid bakers, homeschooling, autoimmune journeys, positivity, growth and learning, pretty darn good pie and just daily life in this log cabin in the woods.

I hope there’s a little something for everyone here. I’m curious- would you please share with me what kinds of things do you like reading about/watching/hearing from the happenings here? What would you like to see more about?

Five years ago, we left our home in a neighborhood to move to the woods and try our hand at homesteading. Other than gardening, cooking and some canning knowledge, we knew nothing about raising farm animals. We had only been in a log cabin one time on a vacation and we had only known one family that homeschooled. I think people thought we were crazy, but we were determined to learn new skills and give our children the slower childhood that we envisioned for them.

Fast forward and now we LOVE living in our log cabin on 21 acres of woods, heating our home with wood that we process, eating food we grew and raised, preserving our harvest, making maple syrup, learning to live off the land and homeschooling our youngest two children. They are thriving with interest led learning and with amazing friends and networks, my husband is in his glory processing enough firewood to heat our whole town 😜and I am loving the time with my kids and being at home with all of them learning and teaching others about homesteading living.

We needed a change. We needed slower living. We needed connection to each other and to nature. So we jumped in with both feet.

Was it crazy? Turns out, no. Would it have been crazy to not have taken this leap? Absolutely.

Are you a homesteader? Did you just jump in or did you gradually learn? Do people think you’re crazy for living this lifestyle?

Hey friends! Boy, do I miss photos on here! As much fun as I have making reels, the photographer in me really loves photographs! Anyone else miss seeing them? My budding photographer, Cooper, took this one when he was ten because he saw me in my garden and said, “Wait, Mom! Stay right there and give me your phone!”❤️ Love seeing life through his lens.

I figured I would say a little into today and tell you a few things about myself.

•I live with my family in a Lincoln log cabin the woods that we almost didn’t even go see but I’m so glad we did
•We raise chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, turkey, goats and rabbit… and kids 😉
•We homeschool in a style I call “Homestead Inspired Homeschooling”. Much of what we learn is rooted in homesteading.
•We love music and my husband is one of those annoyingly gifted people that can pick up just about any instrument and play. I can play “Mary Had A Little Lamb” on the piano. 😆
•I love movie trailers and would be happy just watching those instead of the movie lol. Also to note, one of my pet peeves is when people talk during movies so if we watch movies together and I start turning the volume up loud, that’s why 😂
•I love vertical growing and my favorite things on my tunnels are tomatoes, luffa, birdhouse gourds and squash
•I love bluegrass, country and old rock
•I am a terrible wall painter. I have zero patience for trim work or details.
•My favorite foods are potatoes of any kind, chocolate, peanut butter and grilled cheese with jalapeños
•I never really ate spicy foods until I turned 40 and now I can’t get enough of them! We grow a lot of hot peppers like Apocalypse Scorpions, Caroline Reapers and Sugar Rush Peach. I’m learning to make some smoking hot hot sauce!

Do we have anything in common?

This season’s bean tunnel is up and ready to be planted 🌱
Had to splurge on some shiny new cattle panels this year so it wouldn’t look shabby next to my @vego_garden raised beds 🤍
Loving how the gardens are shaping up this year, even if it is all a bit behind schedule and done between rainstorms. (And sometimes during the rain as well!) 🌧 🤷🏻‍♀️
My fingers are crossed the storms will stay away this weekend so my youngest can get his baseball tournament in. What a crazy spring!

What’s on your weekend to do list??

Episode 2: "Love your plants and they will love you back unconditionally." Way better than people, am I right?

They won't stab you....unless they have thorns. #youvebeenwarned

How many dead plants end up in your Graveyard, I mean, Compost?

Our crabapple is in full bloom, and the bees are loving it. We’d like to line our driveway with a mix of these and Bradford pears. Not only would it be beautiful, but so good for the pollinators too.

Not all eggs are created equal. The eggs yolks from our hens eggs are a deep golden orange color. While store bought egg yolks are usually a very pale yellow. Why does that matter? Well the darker color is and indicator of the hens diet. Chickens that get to eat grass and greens, peck at bugs, and eat grains have darker, more nutrient dense yolks than hens kept indoors and fed only grain. One study found that pastured eggs (from hens that spend their day roaming pastures) have two times the vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids of commercially farmed eggs (from hens who spend their entire lives in doors), and 38 percent more vitamin A. When the hens have a better life and diet, the eggs they lay are more nutritious and delicious.
