🇫🇷🍎 A little French affair, with a rather happy ending.

At The Book Club, we believe every good story deserves a delicious finale. Enter Chef Calvin Metior’s Apple Tarte Tatin — beautifully caramelised apples, golden pastry, and a generous scoop of Madagascan vanilla ice cream.

Très bon. Très gourmand. Très difficile à partager. 😉

A classic French dessert with all the right ingredients for a love affair. And if anyone asks for a taste of yours? Pardon, mais non. Some things are simply too good to share.

📖 Your next delicious chapter awaits at The Book Club.

Gems in the spotlight

We’re wrapping up the series with a visit to @newyorkbagelsct on Harrington Street. @tessa.purdon dropped by to see how they grew the business without sacrificing speed or quality – and to try a bagel or two, of course.

Have you been? What’s your order?

Not long ago I had the best day out with the Eat Out Neighbourhood Gems team — @hanfredrauch and @eatout.gems

It was extra special to spend the day with Hanfred and the crew, exploring some of my absolute favourite foodie spots in Hilton.

Honestly, one day was not enough. I wish we had a full month to get around to all the incredible restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops and amazing local suppliers in Hilton and the Midlands. The talent and passion in this area is next level.

We started @curehouse_midlands , then @thebreakroom_hilton , then @theuppermillstone, @woolworths_sa in Hilton, @napoli_fifteen and a drive by @crosswayshilton — just a few of the gems that make this area so special.

If you want to see all the delicious results from the day, it’s pinned to the top of my page. So lovely to finally share it with you!

If you’re in the Midlands, put these spots on your must-visit list. You won’t regret it.

Steak isn’t new here. You just haven’t seen this side of the menu. 🥩🔥

Our Tomahawk has quietly lived on the special/secret menu — a premium cut, kissed by smoke, finished with a hard sear and served exactly how steak should be.

This one was prepared for the WW Taste YouTube channel. 👀

And yes… it’s Tuesday. Which means you can already secure your Tomahawk for Saturday or Sunday collection.

But don’t wait until the weekend to ask.
Secret menu. Limited cuts. When they’re gone, they’re gone.

Would you order the Tomahawk… or stick to brisket? 👇🥩

Gems in the spotlight

This week, @tessapurdon heads to @bananajamcafe to see how the restaurant keeps its creative spirit alive while staying on top of the day-to-day – from the kitchen to the bottom line.

It's all part of our new series pulling back the curtain on some of the country's most-loved restaurants to find out what makes them tick.
