Tonight it would have been Eva Maria Umbauer’s turn for radio FM4 Heartbeat, on air and stream from 22:00 CET (which is 9pm GMT), but she’s under the weather due to a nasty cold/flu, so I’m stepping in for her with this speedily, not hastily assembled selection. Some of the links are tenuous (You say “No Tomorrow”? - I say Tomorrow!), some obvious (Rocabois v Rundgren), but basically it’s just great to have people like Kate Stables/This is the Kit, Martin Klein, Vanishing Twin and others who I hadn’t heard of until recently such as @ and Biita Houdei fill my playlists with all this wonderful stuff. I’m going to do next week’s show as well... And get well soon Eva!

Gil Scott-Heron - Lady Day and John Coltrane
You Doo Right - Sofort, Si Fort
@ - Autosmile
This Is The Kit - Skim A Stone
Holli - Eins
BMX Bandits - Serious Drugs
Biita Houdei - Fennel Knows
Sofie Royer - Cavalier
The Afterword - Dancing Bear
Rocabois - Mutual Admiration Society
Todd Rundgren - When the Shit Hits the Fan; Sunset Blvd.
the Mountain Goats - Woodstock
Drea - No Tomorrow
Tomorrow - Now Your Time Has Come
Reolo - Blinde esler
Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts - The Foggy Edge of Time
Bonnie Prince Billy - Sometimes it’s Hard to Breathe (Live in the City of Ghosts)
Lande Hekt - Reality
Vanishing Twin - Hazama
Protomartyr - Converts
MARTIN KLEIN - Lunar Surface
Beck - Failed Words
Euroteuro - Forever
Drink the Sea - I’ll Be Your Shelter
Charlie Parr - Rooming House
Richard Thompson - Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Filiah - A Deep Breath Out
The Male Pattern - There are Angels
Dragonflies - End Of World

Recording today’s radio FM4 Heartbeat, on air & stream from 22:00 CET / 9pm GMT, found myself yet again carried away by the endless riches of the music making world: You want the existential wisdom of John Darnielle, you want Clinic with their teeth newly unclenched, you want Vanishing Twin setting out to experiment and ending up with one of their most pop tunes ever, you want Sofie Royer making self-irony sound heartbreaking not flippant, and well that’s not even a sixth of what you’re getting here.
It feels wrong to recommend one’s own show, but then I do it every other week, so now I’m numb to the embarrassment.

Pic is a young Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine, and the reason I’m playing their Guiding Light is explained midway through the show.
Hope you enjoy!

the Mountain Goats - Days
Clinic - You and I
Vanishing Twin - Sugar Stone
Sofie Royer - Sold Out The Jazz Club
Asher White - Nightingale Version
Dinosaur Jr. - No One’s Ready
Swansea Sound - Mean To Be Mean
Keiron Phelan & Peace Signs - Carmen Roller
Sam Burton - Fairweather Friend
Owen Duff - San Francisco, I Suppose
Railcard - Flannelette
Jonathan Richman - As My Heart Changes
Meg Lui - Elvis Queen
Dexys and Dexys Midnight Runners - It’s Over Now
Beck - Disappearing Act
Television - Guiding Light
Holli - 1000 Jahre Schlaf
The Odyssey Cult - The Night Archer
Haruomi Hosono - Note of Mothership
Rotes Haus ft. Goetz Steeger & Siri Keil - Schwester Auf Zeit
The Reds, Pinks & Purples Bad Poetry In Bed
Matthew Edwards - Harriet High
The Peer Group - Sleepwalking
Elanor Moss - Secrets of the Universe
Squirrel flower - Highway Woman
Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts - Second Song
