A Jimi Hendrix Tribute 🎸

James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington - passed away on September 18, 1970 in London, England at the age of 27 due to an accidental overdose that led to asphyxiation.

Hendrix was a guitarist, singer, and songwriter who is considered the greatest guitarist of all time. Jimi’s music career started in 1962 after his discharge from the United States Army where he performed at low paying gigs. In 1964 he became the guitarist in The Isley Brothers’ backing band and also performed with Little Richard in his backing band.

Jimi took off to London struggling to make ends meet, where he met Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. As The Jimi Hendrix Experience began to gain momentum, the group had a performance in late 1966 at the Bag O’Nails nightclub in London. In attendance was Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Brian Jones, MIck Jaggar, and Kevin Ayers. (No Pressure). 😂

With recognition from such rockstars, Jimi and the Experience took flight. Jimi’s first single was “Hey Joe” with “Stone Free” as the B-side. Around the same time Jimi performed on Top of the Pops, and entered the UK Singles chart. Jimi continued to amaze everyone and was the first major artist to set their guitar on fire at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival.

When you think about the fact that Jimi and the Experience released what I would consider the greatest “three album run” in only two years is remarkable. To have such an impact in only three years of fame speaks volumes. One of the most important artist of all time.
