Please allow me to introduce my most recent quilt pattern in the works-
The✨Gossamer Quilt✨

*story time below* 😏
I’d been working on this pattern for a month or so- and had only made two baby versions when my Aunt @eco_prof_celia reached out to ask if she might commission a large throw with a textile she picked up in Guatemala (birthplace of my youngest cousin!)
I figured this would be the PERFECT time to get my butt in gear and finalize the math for the full throw size (72” square.)

It’s such a cool feeling to make a family heirloom with a textile from my cousin’s first home, and a quilt pattern that I designed. The cherry on top was being able to hand-deliver it to them during Thanksgiving this year. 🥰

Can you believe that these walls are made of tires?!

Not only are those used tires given a second time to shine but this construction is also a lot more resistant to Earthquakes than many other materials. Especially in countries like Guatemala, where Earthquakes are very common, these walls are real game changers!

Last week at the July Green Building Academy! We've wrapped up Water Week and are now in Power Week 🔌⚡️

Amidst cobbing, the group has built a solar water heater and fridge!

We’re happy to have warm showers, cool drinks, and the knowledge to build with respect to our resources 🌎

This as we enter our final week in the academy, we’ll learn more off grid systems including passive heating and cooling.
