After spending a lifetime imagining a gorgeous alternative world that is deeply eco-friendly, colorful, and covered in plants . . .

. . . I just “assumed” I couldn’t make it happen IRL because I’m not a property developer with a $20m+ budget.

Then I finally just thought, fuck it. Why not?

Have I even TRIED to make my ecotopia dream developments come true?

And why water my 🌈✨true✨🌈 vision down to “fit in” to what’s considered normal in a property development?
Or what is traditionally considered green architecture (everything green, brown, and white)?

Building the ecotopia future is about way more than energy efficiency and heat pumps. It’s a vision for a world that is designed deeply from the primary principles that sustain ecosystems and people as communities. It needs art, inspiration, and love.

So last year I registered the company ECOPIA LLC with its own bank account and a little cash to plant the seed to be the property developer I’d always wanted to be.

First things first - a vision board of world’s most fabulous eco-community ✨🌱.

Want to raise your kids here? If you are struggling with parenting, I want you to know that the problem is not you. It’s the architecture.

Here are the 17 features apartment communities need to support children, parents, and the planet that I’m building for @ecopia.us

1. A central courtyard that is enclosed, hypersafe & 100% toddler-escape-proof

2. Always children to play with.

3. EV car, bike, & scooter share.

4. Onsite after-school classes.

5. Central zero waste bulk food system.

6. Onsite daycare.

7. Community garden to grow food.

8. Member communication set up and encouraged.

9. Regular community events.

10. Slides from upper floors to the ground. Kids love slides. Safer than the stairs.

11. A nighttime wonderscape of fibreoptic light up flowers, plants, and creatures.

12. Stroller parking - no need to drag that thing up flights of stairs or elevators.

13. Borrow all the baby gear - bouncers, jumpers, change tables, car seats, all available on loan so you don't need to buy it all then sell it again 6 months later.

14. Library room.

15. Zero emissions buildings.

16. Fruit trees (where the extra parking spaces once where).

17. OnSite micro thrift store.

Caring for small children shouldn't be difficult, but it is.

As I suffered through the long days of toddler death prevention during those early parenting years, alone, on the playgrounds of San Francisco, it became jaw-droppingly obvious that the answer was simple.

We are pack animals. Children need to grow up in packs.

It's time to build the village.

Idea of the day: find recipes for leftovers. Search for recipe websites that let you combine different ingredients into new dishes. This will save you money and waste.
