Building a world without food waste ♻️⚡️🌱
Our ZEUS digesters turn food waste into renewable energy and organic plant food called Soil Sauce!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We had an incredible digester launch event with @eatsnooze and @inkind.app last week!

Over the past 2 months, this ZEUS digester has processed over 6,000 lbs of food waste, diverting it all from landfills and reducing dumpster pest and odor issues during the summer heat. At the same time, this system produced $2,000 in Soil Sauce profit sharing for our restaurant partners, highlighting how we directly turn food waste from a cost center into a profit driver.

As thoughtful leaders in the food service space, Snooze, inKind, and @ecotonerenew selected the local food rescue partner @wedontwaste to receive this first Soil Sauce profit share to help us all continue building a world without food waste.

The timing of this launch is critical with the upcoming "Waste No More" ordinance affecting a majority of food service businesses in Denver who will be required to divert food waste from landfills starting in 2 months. We solve this compliance and cost challenge and help partners reduce their costs through our triple-threat digester hardware, waste data software, and full service operations team.

Big thank you to Jonathan de Wolff, Adam Schlegel, and the entire inKind and Snooze teams for helping to make this all happen!

Happy Earth Day!

Pittsburgh Gateways with the support of Ecotone and their Zeus digester we have diverted over 6,806lbs of food waste and 39.19 tons of CO2e at the EIC since September 2024!
Operationally, we are excited to see companies like Case Specific Nutrition growing in our commercial kitchen and making good choices for our community and world as they do!

Upper Schoolers were thrilled to welcome Ecotone Renewables Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder Kyle Wyche back to campus for an in-depth conversation and walkthrough of the Zero Emission Upcycling System digester, more commonly known as ZEUS.

Mr. Wyche visited the Innovation and Entrepreneurship class, the Makerspace, and met with the Faculty and Staff Sustainability Committee to discuss how the digester works.

Click the link in bio to read more about the visit.

Thank you, Mr. Wyche, for sharing your insights with students, faculty, and staff!

What does an economy made for Earth look like?
Right here in Pittsburgh, it looks like turning food waste into energy, growing fresh produce in school gardens, and giving students real, hands-on experience with sustainability 🌱

Come join us for an Open House featuring @ecotonerenew's ZEUS biodigester!

This is our Bio-digester! Its name is Zeus! Zeus is operated by a computer, named Priscilla - together, their closed loop system is acting like a ruminant animals stomach, breaking down waste through anaerobic processes to turn it into energy and fertilizer. they can process up to 500lbs of waste / week. Cool!
The output of Zeus and Priscilla is Soil Sauce, an extremely potent plant fertilizer [that you can buy at the cafe!]

“But what about a dumpster?” Yeah we have one of those but all dumpsters lead to landfills. Landfills lead to greenhouse gasses, greenhouse gasses lead to climate change, climate change leads to ecological destruction, and and and.
Diverting waste from landfills is important to us! It also requires a holistic approach, chiefly: 1) mindful consumption and 2) composting biodegradable components like food waste! When we compost, we ensure that what came from the earth, goes back to the earth. Cool!😎

“Oook but why do you have it?” Well we have some friends who built Zeus and Priscilla, @ecotonerenew renewables, and they brought this unit to the PASA conference. We linked up with them, and they generously offered to extend Zeus’ stay in Lancaster so that we could give it a whirl.
Zeus and Priscilla are here for a good time, not a long time. Come check them out through the middle of
March. Ella will talk your ear off about it and maybe even give you a tour of the inside!!! P.s. We think it’d be cool if another local business or organization adopted this biodigesting unit for good! Thoughts on who?

As a soil scientist, I look for work that respects soil as a living system. This is what that looks like in practice.
