Food carries stories. So do the people who make it.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we take a moment to honor the history, traditions, and lasting influence of Indigenous communities, and to recognize a story that is especially close to home at Eculent.

Chef David Skinner’s Choctaw heritage is part of who he is and part of the story behind his cooking. That connection has helped shape a deep respect for ingredients, the land they come from, and the idea that food can be much more than something placed on a plate. It can preserve a memory, tell the story of a place, and connect one generation to the next.

Those ideas continue to influence the way we think about food at Eculent and Ishtia. We believe ingredients have stories worth telling, traditions are worth learning from, and the past should never be separated from the conversations we have about food today.

Today, we celebrate Chef David’s Choctaw roots while honoring Indigenous people and communities everywhere, those who came before us, those carrying their traditions forward today, and those who will continue telling these stories for generations to come.

For us, it’s a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful stories around the table began long before we arrived.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

David Skinner is seriously out of this world. 🚀

And I’ll be honest… I almost cried just imagining the experience.

Because when food can actually transport you somewhere else — to a memory, a place, a feeling — that’s the whole point.

That’s what great chefs are always chasing.

And what David is creating is insane.

The creativity, the storytelling, the way every detail has intention… he’s on another level.

Chef David Skinner is not just serving food.
He’s creating an experience.

And honestly? I cannot wait to experience it myself. ✨

From NASA to the kitchen… yes, you read that right. 🚀👨🏻‍🍳

Chef David Skinner, the mind behind Ishtia and Eculent, has one of those stories you don’t expect.

In this episode, he tells us how his path crossed with NASA, how science and curiosity became part of the way he thinks about food, and how all of that eventually found its way onto the plate.

This is exactly why I love sitting down with chefs — because sometimes the story behind the food is even crazier than the dish itself.

Would you ever guess NASA could lead you here? 👀

Birthday festivities at the most whimsical, magical place! I know I’m late… but they deserve a post!😆 I’ll share other festivities in another post but this one deserved its very own! 😍 My sweet friend, @justlisa2015 took me to this amazing, creative, special local restaurant. @eculent It was so whimsical! Every single detail was so thought out… from the door knocker to the guest book on each table, to the thoughtfully created dishes… carefully plated… I mean the art and the heart behind every single thing was just unmatched! (The chef was a chemist… check out the video of the soup!) It was just the most magical experience!! I’m so thankful for friends in my life who not only love me but love me well! 🫶❤️

#repost @texascountryreporter
This weekend we’ll visit with one of the most fascinating chefs in Texas. The amazing thing about him and his cooking is that he’s a chemist by trade and only decided to open a restaurant after retiring from a very successful career.

Incredibly, he started one of the most sought after restaurants in Texas, and closed it despite its success.

He’s back with more delightful cooking and awe-inspiring showmanship. Hop in and travel to @ishtiahtx with us. #chefdavidskinner #ishtia
