What a season it’s been at Cold Hollow Sculpture Park. 🍂

From guided walks through the landscape and afternoons spent looking at art from new perspectives, to photography workshops, conversations, and our first commissioned site-specific musical performance, this season brought so many different ways to experience the park.

We celebrated David Stromeyer’s 80th birthday and the remarkable legacy he has created here, welcomed artists and visitors from near and far, and watched the sculptures transform alongside the landscape through the changing seasons.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the trails, took part in a program, shared a conversation, or simply spent a quiet afternoon with the art and the land.

We’re carrying all of those moments with us into the quieter months. Thank you for being part of another memorable year at Cold Hollow. ❤️

A MOST EXTRAORDINARY ARRIVAL IS IMMINENT

Let the bells ring. Let the heavens part. Let the city prepare itself.

Visionary outsider folk artist, international influencer, and provocateur of uncertain jurisdiction, CA$H COW, announces the forthcoming public action PENNIES FROM HEAVEN, a spectacular New York City intervention of uncertain consequence and potentially historic significance.

On Saturday, November 7, this most unconventional dignitary of the contemporary world shall make an appearance on the streets of Manhattan. The occasion calls for volunteer videographers and photographers to document the proceedings for posterity, or at the very least, for the internet.

THE GRAND ITINERARY

12 PM to 1 PM | 23rd Street
Beginning at First Avenue and proceeding west to Tenth Avenue.

1 PM to 2 PM | 14th Street
Beginning at Eleventh Avenue and proceeding east to Avenue A.

Members of the press, documentarians, image-makers, loyal subjects, curious bystanders, and all persons of sound or questionable judgment are cordially invited to attend.

Those wishing to secure a place in this momentous affair may DM here, send correspondence to artinoddplaces@gmail.com, or simply present themselves on the day, when history, spectacle, and the possibility of loose change shall converge upon the streets of New York.

No velvet rope. No papal bull. No guarantee of miracles.

CA$H COW IS COMING.
Govern yourselves accordingly.

Traveling with friends Andrea and Vic today to one of my favorite secret respites from the electricity of New York City. Riding the East River ferry to Ferry Point Park in the Bronx, looking back at Manhattan, I found calm, healing, and my breath. If you live here = You gotta do it.

The dystopian and utopian city leaves its imprint on our internal psychogeography, shaping how we move through the world and understand ourselves. And oh shit, sometimes I need a little distance (like today) to see it clearly, to remember its beauty without being consumed by its energy.

My soul needed some shining light right now — a quiet holistic breath of clarity in a time of shaky uncertainty of these times. I am SO grateful for good friends, open water, and the simple pleasure of looking back to find my way forward.❣️

An inspiring evening of conversation, reflection, and shared possibilities at Practicing Socially Engaged Public Art, presented by Korea Art Forum and SPCUNY and moderated by Gregory Sholette.

Created by one of my favorite heroic curators and public art producers, Heng Gil Han, the panel explored how socially engaged art creates space for dialogue, community, and imagining the world differently.

Thank you to panelists Nels Erickson, Martin Lucas, Sohhee Oh, Lucia Warck-Meister, Mashiyat Zaman, and Ricardo Miranda Zúñiga for sharing their experiences and insights into the possibilities and challenges of making art with and alongside communities.

Honored to be invited along with the squad. The evening continued with a wonderful gathering, dinner, and drinks at The Kunjip. Good conversation, good company, and people committed to making room for art and new possibilities.

It rained. It was windy. We showed up anyway. 🌧️🌆

Thank you to the artists who filled 14th Street with imagination and generosity, the volunteers who gave their day to this, the photographers who caught it all, and everyone who came out and brought the utopia with them.

Nothing stopped us. We were there. Together. That matters. 🖤

It happened suddenly. I was alone in the rain installing my goddesses over an empty storefront when I looked up and saw one was missing. A man was walking away. I ran in front of him and saw he was tearing her apart. I cried out “why did you do that?” He yelled “because it's ugly” and I took the pieces from his hands.

A kind person was suddenly there with an umbrella, comforting me. She said she was a therapist. She stayed until Arantxa and a friend came and took me under their wings.

I was more shaken than I realized, afraid my other works were missing. We made what felt like a long journey to the west to where the whole crew was set up. Everyone was so kind, bringing me tea & donuts. Ed dried the rain from all of my goddesses and encouraged me to tell the story to get it out of my body.

Katya said maybe this was the patriarchy feeling threatened by these nonbinary goddesses. She also said it seemed cosmic & I began to think of myths of dismemberment like Osiris, Zagreus, Purusha… sometimes gods are torn apart because they are too powerful, sometimes new worlds are created or a rebirth takes place.

Someone noted that he had ripped the goddess artfully and indeed he had: across her neck, waist, legs, & ankles, into six pieces. He could have torn down everything or attacked me or crumpled her up, but he even gave her back.

Originally I had wanted to invite passersby to engage with my goddesses. I had designed a ritual where people could choose one to trace with chalk as a blessing, but in the rain I left this part out.

Perhaps this was a ritual. Perhaps this goddess was meant to be broken. Even in the moment, I had told the therapist that I might repair the pieces in some way to commemorate the experience. Yes, like with gold, she agreed. In a recent narrative medicine class, we discussed kintsugi as a way of processing trauma. Maybe he needed something to break. Maybe I needed something to put back together. Maybe I needed to be reminded of the fragmented world we live in.

In the end, it felt like a gift that I got to spend the rest of the day in community having conversations I wouldn't have otherwise had & I received this unexpected jolt of inspiration

My wonderful nephew Drew and his boyfriend, Nick, are in New York City from North Carolina. My high school friend Cindy Steele is visiting McDonough, Georgia, and her daughter and I took an East River ferry adventure.

Then the AiOP 2026: UTOPIAS panel discussion in Jackson Square Park, bathed in a magical golden light, talked about making more room for one another. It was perfect, with a Nor’easter bearing down and Art in Odd Places about to take over 14th Street with artists from around the world.

The calm before the storm. New York being New York. And me, once again, so grateful to be here.

Another trip around the sun!

Level 69 unlocked, and the looksmaxxing begins immediately. At this point, the glow-up isn’t a lifestyle choice, it’s a tactical maneuver. I have officially entered the “highly moisturized” era.
