South Park's latest historical home to hit the market was built in an experimental way based on the building tactics and craftsmanship of Master Architect Irving Gill who revolutionized and improved upon many building techniques that are still used today. Located on Granada Ave, the subsequent owners will enjoy a life in South Park surrounded by many historical homes including the Peter Price House and the Lindestrom House. We present the John & Cora Watson Residence currently on the market in South Park, San Diego. 😁✌️

Built in 1921 by carpenter John Watson for his family, this 2 bed 1 bath, 1,038 sq ft Arts and Crafts era bungalow with Vernacular Prairie Style influences is notable for "single-wall" construction. Also called "thin-wall" construction, there is no gap between separate exterior and interior wall panels. Instead, the interior and exterior finishes are applied to opposite sides of the same panel. The technique was revolutionized by Master Architect Irving Gill who first demonstrated it with his Red Roost and Red Rest Beach Cottages on Coast Blvd as well as the Windermere Cottage all in La Jolla in 1894. All of these Gill homes have since been demolished. 😥

By 1921, when the subject property was built, single-wall construction was not used, especially in South Park where large, solidly-built homes were the standard. Also, it's very rare and uncommon to see a unique vernacular mixing of Prairie and Craftsman styles, making this home truly one of a kind. Information on San Diego single-wall construction is almost exclusive to Irving Gill's experimental La Jolla cottages and the only other homes that featured this technique no longer exist. 😱🤯

The timing of the subject property's build excludes Gill as a potential architect, so it is unknown how or why John Watson decided on this technique. One can assume Watson was at least aware of Gill's work based on 3 of his properties located just one parcel north of Watson's home. It is in our opinion that this house is the only remaining home utilizing single-wall construction in San Diego today. 🤟🤩🥳

All the best for @MarkRichardsSurfboards who is currently on the mend after a #skincancer scare. The four time world champion just shard his experience after finding something suss on one of his most valuable shaping tools - aka his left middle finger. The post has over 160 comments already from well wishers and people who’ve been inspired to get a #skincheck because of what happened to him.

Spreading awareness and action for #earlydetection is exactly what #SkinCheckChampions is all about and we applaud the surfing community for getting around one of their heroes in such a fine way.

If there’s any chance we can tee up some pop-up skin check clinics at any of your local surf comps #MarkRichards we’d be honoured to be there. Same goes for any stop on the @surfing_nsw, @wsl, @surfingaus @quiksilver tours.

Just give us a holla and we’ll make it happen. The more people we check the more lives we’ll save. Love your work Mark.

🤞 chat soon!!
