And then all of a sudden you’re the highest you’ve ever been.
The breath is short. It’s freezing. So cold ice forms under your nostrils.
It feels like you’re scraping the urban barrel of its grit. Goop and slop.
Because the mountains go on and on and behind each soft snow slope, another shimmering overture.
Guides in coloured robes poised brilliantly before glaciers
and underneath parasols in memory of the song.
Yesterday’s prayers become today’s sun.
And I look at Ed. Slowly emptying because it’s so good.
“Wouldn’t you agree?” Undoing the lid of the bottle.
Ssssss a tablet of magnesium (the complex) whispers:
There’s nothing up there holding us in.

Manaslu at 3600 ft. where life is mossy!
The rocks are hot urchins and the trees - all brittle - all popping like candy in the Spring.
We see snow now as we continue to climb, settled in white shadows on the ground.
Crunch, tweet.
The bird is perched. Can you see it?
And the stream - unbelievably cold, drinkable, loveable.
The textures flow. The fabric is running.
I can’t help but wonder. What else this place knows. Where else the fairyland goes.
