EDINBURGH BOOKPLACE TOUR
🌿
The incredible attention for natural elements, people and the extreme care for details left me amazed.

“It was in that moment that she made her decision—the decision that was to lead to such very momentous events.”

The Book Fairies are sharing copies of Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie across both the UK and the USA today! The fairies are celebrating 50 years since the novel’s posthumous publication, after Agatha had filed it away for over thirty years.

Who will be lucky enough to spot one of these beautiful books today? This copy is in the Central Library in Edinburgh, close to The Butterfly Tree and the Lost Child paper sculpture.

About the book:

A strange house. A ghost from the past. As soon as she moves into Hillside, Gwenda knows there’s something strange about this house. Despite her best efforts to modernize the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs.

A sealed room. A hidden door. The apparition of a young woman being strangled.
But strangest of all – this all seems quite familiar.

In fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts. Have the two of them dredged up a perfect crime committed many years before?

The killer may have gotten away with murder. But Miss Marple is never far behind.

Have you made your pledge to join Scotland’s Wee Read on Wednesday 7 October?
We'd love you to join us as we celebrate reading and libraries.
Every type of reading counts - it could be a novel, comic, magazine, newspaper, audiobook, poem, or recipe.
The Wee Read is an invitation to stop and find a moment of joy in reading.

And if you pop into Central Library soon, you could make your pledge from the big Wee Read deckchair!

Some useful information for anyone wanting to attend my exhibition in Edinburgh ✨ If any of my friends in Edinburgh could pick up a copy of The Scotsman or the Edinburgh Evening News, I’d be super grateful! As would my mum 😉🙏✨🖤 (Press photos by @grahampengelly_ )

Another meaningful moment in Edinburgh for my literary journey as a Pakistani writer ❤ My short story, The Way to Live Forever, is being displayed at one of Edinburgh's most significant cultural institutions, the Art & Design Library, in connection with the International Day of Charity. The library is part of the City of Edinburgh Council and plays a major role in serving Edinburgh’s creative and cultural community. I am grateful to the Art & Design Library for welcoming my work and for giving this story a place within Edinburgh’s creative environment.

A new exhibition on Capital Collections shows off part of a donation received from the estate of commercial photographer, S G Jackman. We were delighted to receive this donation of negatives, prints and his meticulous notebooks which supplement photographs by Jackman already in the Library’s collection.

Unfortunately, over the years some of the photographic film negatives had become badly affected by Vinegar Syndrome, so called because of the distinctive vinegary odour it produces. These negatives were digitised to preserve Jackman’s photographic record of Edinburgh and then disposed of to prevent further contamination. Sadly, the Vinegar Syndrome effects are very evident in some of these images showing the crackling and bubbling on the surface of the film. However, we have included some of the affected negatives in the exhibition as they show interesting and recognisable views of the city from the 1950s and 1960s, a period under-represented in our collections.
