Welcome back to Fridge Facts, everybody. This is October 14th’s Fridge Fact, and on this day in 2003, Chicago Cubs fan Steve Bartman deflected a ball away from Cubs outfielder Moises Alou. The Cubs then proceeded to give up eight runs in the inning, and they end up losing their game to the Marlins eight to three, and the Bartman incident, as it’s known, is seen as the turning point in the series. Now, luckily for the Cubs, just a mere 13 years later, their curses were broken, and they won their first World Series in over 100 years. But according to Eddie from Barstool Sports, who I commend Eddie for even tracking down where Steve Bartman is as he attempts to get an interview with the iconic Cubs fan, said that Bartman’s job, if the incident is mentioned at his place of employment by another employee, allegedly that employee, automatic termination. Crazy if that’s true, and I trust Eddie’s reporting there and his investigative journalism when it comes to things revolving around Chicago sports.
