@abvferments turns 5 this year. kinda wild.

year 1 was so raw and organic. i wish i had more pics. thank you @bin.bin.sake @geopad @childrensatlasofwine @jimsligh @zevrovineselections @zev_rovine for helping to bring the platform to life. thank you to every producer that showed up and helped to lay the foundation. thank you to all the homies that volunteered. thank you to my community that showed tf up!

the space has evolved. the vision isn’t mine alone. the collective is strong. i have many to thank. especially @thebellejustine and @oniyxtings for keeping it all together. for giving me the grace needed to grow as a leader.

i wrote about [ABV] for my MBA scholarship application. it has changed my life; made it better, challenged me, forced reflection and growth.

what started as an attempt to draw more Black producers into the fold thru resource sharing and to champion ancestral techniques has taken on a life of it’s own. anyone that knows me personally knows that this is my life’s work, and i will continue pushing in any and all spaces for true sustainability.

in it’s current iteration, [ABV] is a safer space for the oddballs of the industry. melanated. queer. sustainability-obsessed. all of us together for a day of love and joy. we keep the summit as a non-profit mission driven event, because community really is the deliverable.

thank you to the dozens of volunteers that show up every year. shout out to this years organizers @mandarooney @patio.pounder @samm_hewitt who have put in work to make it nice for year 5 and @julitapplebum forever holding it down on the tech!! we have a whole team, yall.

I had the privilege of marrying my best friend and soulmate in front of those we love and hold dearly. We could not have asked for a more perfect day nor could we feel more supported than we do now. ❤️ @megb127 is my ocean that commands love, respect, and awe daily!

It was so important that this day was for our children as well. Not only did we legally come together but it was clear they all had an experience they cherished and will never forget.

Joining her family could not be more seamless and I’m gaining parents, brothers, and sisters who I feel like I’ve known for my whole life.

On a side note the team at The Union League Liberty Hill really are the best of the best. Every detail was anticipated and they led with omotenashi! @jimmyg78 @drew_ryan18 @breakinglasses

We are also extremely lucky to count @sam.soliman as a friend and in turn have the honor of him and his team (@creatively.vp & @topherandout) capturing all of these special moments and more. One of the most kind people he is also incredibly talented (as are his team) capturing not just the memories but artistically so. If you don’t follow him please do, he’s an extraordinarily talented documentarian who is pushing to make extremely valuable waves in society for humanity.

Our next judge, who I was lucky to work with at @walnutstcafe, is @eddiesade

Etinosa Emokpae is a Pennsylvania sales representative for Skurnik Wine & Spirits and a Philadelphia-based wine professional originally from The Bronx, New York. Her foundation in wine was shaped through her work at Maialino and Lafayette in New York City, where she developed a lasting appreciation for wine, hospitality, and the stories behind each bottle. In 2016, she relocated to Philadelphia, where she became an integral part of the city’s restaurant and beverage community.

She subsequently served as Beverage Director at Walnut Street Café and later as Wine Director at Friday Saturday Sunday, where she helped develop thoughtful and compelling beverage programs. In 2019, she was recognized as one of SevenFifty’s Rising Stars in Philadelphia. She has also served as a wine judge for TEXSOM Awards, reflecting her broader engagement with the wine industry and commitment to professional excellence. Etinosa is a WSET Diploma candidate, continuing to deepen her expertise while fostering meaningful connections between producers, buyers, and guests.

Words cannot capture the joy of sharing in Muhibbah with this crew! A huge thank you to the @platformbyjbf and the @beardfoundation for hosting myself and the incredible team of people behind all that we do at @kamparphilly for a Muhibbah Bartending Seminar.

Young Sam would have been overwhelmed by the honor of being asked to present his work for the James Beard Foundation. And while it was an incredible privilege - today, I find the greatest honor to be sharing in community with the creative, passionate, and dedicated people that make up @kamparphilly
