Congratulations to JESSE RAPP (@jesseramonerapp ) for being named Surfer of the Week for the week of September 7th! The 17-year-old from Costa Mesa opened up his 25/26 competition campaign in spectacular fashion with an impressive victory in the Open Mens at the SW season opener at Salt Creek. After making a huge statement at the 2024 National Championships making finals in both the Open Mens and Open Juniors divisions, Jesse took the 24/25 comp season off, traveling to Spain, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Indo. He is back home now, attending Edison High School for his Junior year. No doubt he will be a strong addition to the Chargers Surf Team. His favorite subject is Math. Jesse is sponsored by Vissla, Futures and Jacks. He names @kolby_aipa , @brettsimpson , @edrapp.trip , Shubin and Ching as his local heroes. He is coached by his Dad, Christian Saenz, Edison Surf Team Coach Zoran Forgiarini and Big Carl. When Jesse isn’t surfing at his local break at the Newport River Jetties, he is either playing guitar, golfing or skateboarding. Steve Wurster, 1973, Huntington Southside.. Steve was a ripper from Edison High School and the older brother of filmmaker Gary Wurster.. Gary made a surf film called "Surf Daze" circa 1975, which had a young Dan Rice daydreaming in his car before school about killer surf .. (We posted the movie here and will repost it) There were many shredder Edison High School dudes who took notes from the pier shredders of the time. This quote from Dan Rice, "We all looked up to Steve and Lonnie Buhn and LaRoy Dennis and Chris Hawk".. This Southside Bowl shot of Steve heading into the pier with such speed and feathering chattery wall with the old dilapidated wooden end of the Huntington Pier contrasting this death drop is again showing the skill and timing by photographer Brad Dawber snapping this with film...one shot .. capturing the moment with the 1970s era stick with little rocker and beak nose snug tight on the drop with Steve holding on for dear life just charging. We can feel the intensity still .. @braddawber @edisonsurfteam

Had a great time participating in the Paddle for CF (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation) yesterday with my surf team! We learned a lot about CF and our two teams and ended up scoring 🥇 and 🥈in the relay!
