How do you move a 65 year old tree?? Very slowly 😏
.
We were on hand last week in NW DC as the fruits of our labor paid off- a giant, mature pin oak at the old Fannie Mae building was relocated instead of being cut down. This is all thanks to the Tree Canopy Protection Amendment Act of 2016 🙌

So cool to meet up with some of the old team from #911memorial and #pwplandscapearchitecture, and to see all those trees growing up and doing everything we asked of them.

"On behalf of our family and the memory of our grandfather, Emile Grandjean, we would like to thank St. Luke’s Medical Center for the care it has given the giant sequoia. It is truly a family heirloom. We believe the tree speaks to the power of a gift and, in this case, a living gift. In about 1912, John Muir sent the sequoia seedling from California to our grandfather in Boise. Emile made a gift of the young tree to his friends, Doctors Fred and Alice Pittenger, for their home near St. Luke’s. Over a hundred years later, the final ‘leg' of the gift is the tree’s relocation to Fort Boise Park. Think of the small gestures John Muir and Emile made more than a century ago and how we are celebrating that 98-foot gift today! Our family is grateful to St. Luke’s for its acknowledgement of the tree’s landmark status and for its care of the tree over the years. We are hopeful the tree will grace Boise in its new location for centuries to come." -Mary Grandjean, granddaughter of Emile Grandjean #Boisesequoia #thisisboise #Boise #idaho #sequoia
