‘Northern Pride’ - New Balance Made in UK at HIP - a poem by John Joseph Holt John Joseph Holt is an award-winning writer, artist and founder of documentary publication LAW. A portrayal of the beautiful everyday in Britain - overlooked stories immortalised in print. The poem is a mixture of conversations John had with people in local shops, processes learnt ‘on the line’ at the Made in UK Flimby factory, and memories of going to visit his Gran in the Lakes growing up. “I Imagined it as a pair of shoes leaving the factory and passing through the landscape before arriving in store or at someone’s front door.” New Balance’s Made in UK range is a collection of special, hand-crafted models made in Flimby - a small village in Cumbria with a population of 1700 people. A proud symbol of British shoemaking craft. This is my favourite passion project I’ve ever worked on and it’s just won Los Angeles Film Awards, Oniros Film Awards New York and San Diego Movie Awards for best music video 🏆💎 We also got nominated for the @ukmva for best rap video this year and it’s sick to see the recognition for something we all worked on endlessly for months. This one was such a special project because we got to go through the entire MEEKZ universe creating Mini Me’s as the pinnacle of that series. I’ve been working with @kc.locke for so long now that the workflow is just as efficient as possible and we try push for the maximum we can get out of a video. We always share ideas and Showcase was on our hit list for time, we discussed using that in a video back when we were doing Like Me as it’s pretty much the origin of the MEEKZ character and a Manchester staple. The main thing with VFX heavy videos is that we plan things to the dot. KC will make his treatment and then give it over to me with the song. I’ll start to put things together in a timeline as a pre-viz, this for me is the key to cutting videos like these. It’s all about giving the right sequencing and timing to reveal scenes in tandem with the music and give the viewer that feeling of surprise and sitting at the edge of your seat to see the next insane scene. It’s an interesting way to edit, when I build a cut like this I have to use the images of the treatment and predict what the actions of the main character will look like so we can time each scene on the day. Once I’m editing to blue/green screen I have to almost super impose what I imagine the scene to look like, the direction the train travels in, what height will we be at, how will everything interact when done so I can make the decisions of what the detailed cuts now are within our pre-set segments. Big shoutout to @noahkayma my brother as he is the absolute genius who runs LMNTL and he just creates VFX with such detail and thought that we couldn’t have asked to work alongside anyone better for this project. The process was long and heavy but with all of us pulling together we managed to create a piece of work that’ll stand the test of time! Love to the team 🫡💎
