Planning a fly fishing trip to Montrose, Colorado, or thinking about moving to the Gunnison Valley? On this episode of Hidden Gunnison, Kelsey Loftis with Crystal Peak Properties visits Ed's Fly Shop in downtown Montrose. Owner Ed LeViness talks about the local fly fishing scene, from the Gunnison Gorge and Black Canyon of the Gunnison to the Uncompahgre River, which runs right through town.

Ed's Fly Shop is an independent, locally owned shop carrying fly rods, reels, waders, flies and fly tying materials. They also run guided float and walk-and-wade trips on the Gunnison Gorge, plus beginner classes, casting lessons and fly tying clinics.

Since I’m a self proclaimed expert in wandering into cute local shops in Montrose, here are my rankings right now: 👇

@mariposaantiques — for the “I was just going to look” stop that turns into finding something you didn’t even know you needed

@sheshemontrose — for clothing, gifts, and the kind of “I’ll just try this on” moment that turns into a whole new outfit

@edsflyshop — for the outdoorsy side of Montrose, whether you’re gearing up for the river or shopping for someone who is

If you’ve got a ranking system for your favorite local shops, congrats! You’re officially a Montrose local. 😉

Team Colorado Fly Angler fly tyer @discodean1 proving that not only does he tie the Spotted Cloud Hopper for us, but on his off days he likes to do the product testing & marketing as well. Strong work Dean 💪🏼👍🏼

Spotted Clouds for 'Spotted Trout', we love it!!!

Dean recently tied a large batch of CFA Spotted Cloud hoppers for @edsflyshop and apparently it's that time of year so get down there & pick some up.

Remember to change things up fly color, tippett, fly size, mix it up as the fish will reject a fly that they see over and over. That’s what I do just ask Ed’s Fly Shop Montrose, Colorado. Hernandez fly fishing
