If you're going to join us either in-person or online, please do consider purchasing your ticket soon as your funds enable us to cover some early expenses.

The conference on Contemplative Pedagogy is not-for-profit, which means every penny (cent!) goes to pay for our speakers and the conference itself. And in addition to those funds we only have a small (but essential!!) grant from the Ileen Macpherson Trust.

This places an early challenge upon us to raise enough money well in advance to cover the cost of booking some flights.

My flights are kindly funded by the Ileen Macpherson Trust, but I'm keen to ensure we book the flights soon for several of our speakers to avoid any early complications.

You can find the link for purchasing tickets in the bio.

And a huge thank you to those of you who have already purchased; we really appreciate all your support 🙏 😊

https://events.humanitix.com/designing-for-open-ended-playful-explorations-in-museum-and-gallery-spaces Designing for open-ended playful explorations in Museum and Gallery spaces

Tue, 29 Sep, 3:30pm - 5pm AEST

VAD studio, studioFive, Level 5 Kwong Lee Dow Building (Building 263) @eduunimelb
Parkville VIC, Australia

What happens when we design museum and gallery experiences without determining in advance how visitors should explore, interact or play?

Join visiting Danish co-design researcher Associate Professor Sune Gudiksen for a participatory workshop exploring how open-ended play can create new possibilities for visitor experience, co-exploration and meaning-making in museums, galleries and cultural spaces.

We’ll begin by taking a playful journey down memory lane, drawing on our own experiences of play to uncover what makes an encounter exploratory, surprising, social or open-ended. Sune will introduce his Play Pendulum model and share examples from his research and collaborations with museums and cultural institutions.

From there, we’ll turn the session into a shared laboratory. Drawing on participants’ experiences across museums, galleries, curatorial practice, education, design and research, we’ll explore and map different forms of playful engagement and collectively identify emerging characteristics, tensions and possibilities.

Rather than arriving at a fixed answer, we’ll create provisional visual maps, typologies and provocations that can become starting points for future experimentation and collaboration.

Come ready to remember, play, map, question and imagine what museum and gallery experiences might become when we leave space for the unexpected.

What happens when we use play not simply for engagement, but as a way to challenge assumptions, disrupt familiar patterns and create productive surprises?

Join visiting Danish co-design researcher Associate Professor Sune Gudiksen for a participatory session exploring how play and game-based techniques can foster richer forms of collaboration across design, education, research and innovation.

Sune will open the session by sharing examples from his research and practice in co-design, play design and cultural institutions, including insights into how playful methods can be designed and facilitated. We will then move into collaborative sharing and reflection, drawing on examples brought by participants from their own practice, research or works-in-progress.

Together, we will explore what makes playful co-design work: how methods are designed, how in-play situations are scaffolded, and how reflection and debriefing can turn moments of play into sustained insights and new possibilities.

Bring something to the table. Participants are encouraged to bring an example of a playful or game-based method they have used, encountered, researched—or are still imagining.

This is a space for experimentation, exchange and cross-disciplinary thinking. No expertise in games or play is required; curiosity is enough.

Much museum and gallery education still imagines exhibitions as places of interpretation or engagement. SWISP instead positions the exhibition as research infrastructure; a living pedagogical ecology where artistic inquiry, climate justice, public participation and archival practice are inseparable. @kateycoleman with @neda.s.sajadi @eduunimelb

Final @churchill_trust week. Gratitude doesn’t cut it. Neurodiversity mental health systems reform is coming - not if, but when. In sport and all other areas of society. Endless heartfelt thanks to my collaborators and hosts for your generosity and ongoing leadership. Onwards and upwards to a more inclusive and discrimination-free society.
