Chris Butler: Stop engaging with agents. Engage with the artifacts they produce. And go check who actually reads the docs you ship. If nobody does, kill the process.

Anthony: Define your metric before you ask AI to measure it. The progression that matters: prompt → skill → automation. Most people stop at the prompt.

Priscilla Pan: The bottleneck moved from writing code to judgment and taste. You don’t need to know how. You need to know what to ask. And distribution, not building, is the new moat.

Another spicy takeaway: Auto-generated prompts/skills are ~50% less effective than human-written ones. LLMs are “rubber ducks 2.0”, what matters is your reaction to the output, not the output itself.

I used to throw boat parties every summer in Seattle —

I even attended the wedding of a couple that met at one of my boat parties!!

it all started because my company threw a boat party for the interns

but someone bought a bunch of the tickets before my friends and I could get them

so we decided to rent out the *same exact boat* on a different weekend

and invite all our friends on the boat 😎

we had SO much fun we did it 3 times

and now I kinda wanna bring it back… 🤔🤭

Two years ago, these kids couldn’t code.
Blake Anderson, Zach Yadegari, and the rest of the App Mafia crew were just a bunch of college kids with laptops and an idea. No VC money. No fancy engineering degrees. No connections in Silicon Valley.
They built RizzGPT. Then Umax. Then Cal AI.
Cal AI just got acquired by MyFitnessPal today. 15 million downloads. $30M+ in annual revenue. 7 employees. Built with AI tools that didn’t even exist three years ago.
And MyFitnessPal, a company backed by a private equity firm that paid $345 million for it, spent almost a YEAR trying to convince these teenagers to sell.
Let that sink in.
A trillion dollar industry leader had to chase down kids who taught themselves to code with ChatGPT. The CEO of MyFitnessPal said he walked away from his first conversation with Zach thinking “this is an impressive young man.” Zach is 19. He runs the company from his dorm. His weekly standup is on Sunday nights because he’s still in school.
But here’s what nobody’s talking about.
This isn’t just a cool acquisition story. This is a signal. The entire game of how software gets built just shifted under everyone’s feet.
These kids didn’t have 10 years of engineering experience. They had AI, cultural fluency, and the audacity to ship fast. Blake literally said “everybody can” build apps now. And he proved it. Multiple times. Before he turned 24.
The App Mafia built a portfolio worth over $100M. Not by raising money, not by grinding through YC. By identifying trends, building fast with AI, and growth hacking through TikTok influencers.
If that doesn’t wake you up, I don’t know what will.
The real YNs you should be paying attention to aren’t on Wall Street. They’re in Miami group houses shipping apps between classes.
Portfolio over resume. Always.
