LA catch-ups…and everywhere life took us. Years later (somewhat adults) we’re still cute, still smart, and still a little bit of a party crew 😅.

2024 bought me forth into new parts of myself. The year started with a lot of joy, adventure, and a deep sense of competence…and then I got injured.

Every now and then, a time comes along where I stop feeling like I am flowing with the river of life and instead feel like I am stuck in a swamp. Recovering from injury has been swampy.

For someone who is used to being in control, leading, managing, recovering from major injury was one of the most frustrating experiences. The progress my mind could think looked nothing like the progress that felt right to my body. The more I fought and tried to swim through the muck, the slower it felt like I moved.

Instead, I have been learning (again) to surrender. To stop fighting the current and instead tune into the gentle, bobbing movement that comes with letting a recovery take its own time. I learned to slow down without quitting. To show up to work and relationships and myself despite the discomfort, and to let beings and practices fall away with the trust that they’d come back into my life if and when the time is right.

I didn’t finish the year feeling my strongest, smartest, or most resourced self. But I did finish it with a new sense of tenacity. And while I’m still healing, I can look back on the year and see that while the day to day felt like muck, movement was happening. I passed a major PhD milestone. I felt the sun on my skin every day. I grew my client base. I deepened my relationships. I put my hands in the dirt. I read thousands of pages. I cried a lot, but I belly laughed just as much.

I started the year feeling competent because things were going well. But as I look back on the year, the word takes on a new meaning. Because even when things felt icky, and my goals changed size, and I wasn’t feeling my best, I still showed up to life with honesty and sincerity. And I accomplished a lot. Which is a reminder that perhaps competence isn’t so much about being The Best as it is about showing up the Best you can with what you’ve got. By that measure, I have a lot to be proud of. 🌟🐴🌻♥️ #thankyou2024

Way late on the birthday post but 30 you were so special!! It was a culmination year of so much exploration, celebration, and integration…and by far my biggest gift has been this vibrant disco ball of people, puppies, and ponies in my life who beam back at me through it all. Cheers to the next sun-lap! I’m feeling fresh and so ready for whatever adventures 31 has in store 🥂 🌎🌀🪩🌞

I love FUN! But not just because it’s fun.

Play allows us to gracefully navigate difficult experiences in all areas of life. Through safe play, the nervous system gets to complete incomplete stress cycles and practice moving through new cycles of activation and relaxation without losing connection to self, other, or the present moment.

So the act of play is not frivolous! It is a deeply integral building block of an authentic and expansive life 🐒
