🎄 LONDON. CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT TO GET LOUDER. 🤘

Guiltless Jam is back — and this time, we're taking over Brixton.

On Friday 11 December, we're bringing our guilty pleasures, questionable song choices and unapologetic rock energy to Effra Social.

Expect festive chaos. Expect riffs. Expect the unexpected.

The Effra Social
📍89 Effra Rd, London SW2 1DF
🚇 Brixton
🍺 £6.00 Pravha

The Effra Social is located just south of the centre of Brixton, close to Brockwell Park in South London. The nearest Tube is Brixton.

This pub started life as the local Conservative Club and was built around 1880. The Conservative Club closed in 2012 and reopened as The Effra Social in February 2013 under Antic Pubs. Today, it is operated by Portobello Pub Co.

The name of the pub can be attributed to three potential local links: Effra Hall, which was demolished towards the end of the 19th century; the lost River Effra, which was covered over in 1865; or Effra Road, on which the pub sits.

The layout features a beer garden at the front, a small snug bar to the front right and, down some stairs at the rear, a large hall with a servery on the right.

The decor has some interesting features dating from the 1930s and 1970s. The front bar has flowery wallpaper, simple furniture and an Art Deco fireplace. In the hallway leading to the back hall are photographs of Conservative Club members and some rolls of honour. The back hall has wall panelling dating back to the 1970s, a parquet floor, large graphic artworks and is dimly lit with neon lighting.

The beer selection is entirely keg, with a line up of popular, well-known beers and two stouts, Murphy’s and Guinness. I decided on a Pravha. My pint was great, price point was about average. The food is provided by the resident kitchen @jurkish_ which offers Jamaican and Turkish fusion food. Roasts are available on Sundays.

I arrived at 4pm on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon in September. The beer garden was absolutely packed with punters enjoying the autumn sunshine, inside it was fairly quiet. After a little mooch about, I sat outside, there was a nice buzz about the place. The service was on point, the team members on duty were welcoming and courteous.

Reasonably priced pints, retro decor and welcoming service made for an interesting and enjoyable visit. Worth a look if you’re in the area.

Follow @effra.social for whats on.

You meet someone on the last night of your holiday. The connection is undeniable. Do you change your flight for £600 or go home? Are you choosing Lover or a layover? ♥️✈️

That's just one of the debates we're having live at In Flight Entertainment, the dating debates nobody's brave enough to have online. On the agenda:

🗨️ Can you fall in love with someone you've known for 2 weeks?

🗨️ Is dating abroad just running away from the same problems at home?

🗨️ Can long distance relationships work or are you just delaying the inevitable?

Grab the mic, pick a side, or send in your anonymous confession and let the room decide 🔒

Plus games, a live debate, Final Call (shoot your shot on stage 😉)

Ladies, fellas: come with opinions, leave with a new friend, a travel buddy… or something more. 🤭
