The sun is setting on this chapter of Dawn. After 4 years of hand sewn looks, fab functions and potluck dinners, it is through much reflection that we have collectively decided to close The Avant House of Dawn. What began as a couple of drag queens turning up to FAFSWAG’s Final Fantasy Ball in 2019 has since grown into an inimitable Ballroom House and a lifelong whānau. Grounded in collective care, creativity, history, and chosen family, we are incredibly proud of what we have shared and built together as a house. In honouring the legacy of what it means to be a Ballroom House, we felt it was important to recognise that this era has naturally come to an end. Our members continue to embark on individual evolving paths, and in light of this, it feels like the right time to close this chapter with care and intention. While our time as a Ballroom House has come to an end, our future as chosen family has not. Our lives remain intertwined, and we will continue to nurture, support, and show up for one another and our wider community. We are deeply grateful to ballroom - the community and the culture - for being the catalyst that brought us together. We are so proud to have been a House that has impacted, contributed, and been an integral part of this community. Most of all, we look forward to seeing our individual journeys unfold, and ballroom in Aotearoa continue to thrive. 00, 00! With love, House of Dawn
