After I got the Disney Princess snippet I started thinking just random artful things I think all the time and I had a specific vision come into my mind that I wanted drawn. It came so clearly to my mind and I held onto it till I could afford to get it drawn and Egu brought it to life!! I saw Melanie and me by the Disney Princess wall while she laced my corset behind me with her knee in my back. I wanted to include every era so I added the K-12 doll, the Cry Baby wolf, her half and half hair but with her HADES style hair and of course her iconic Portals mask I met her in✨the axe she pointed at me with, and her dagger from Is This A Cult! I wanted our outfits to give “long white dresses” and man is it pretty🥹thank you @eguardx for bringing my idea to life!! And thank you @rubi.corella for the birthday gift 🤪💗this took 5 weeks to draw and it’s perfect🥹

Happy release day to “Hawk & Sparrow” by @ayanagray_ 🥰 thank you so much to @macmillanusa and @netgalley for having me on the ARC team 🫶✨ it’s officially September and I can’t believe how fast this year is going by - there are also so many good books coming out this fall! What are you reading for cozy autumn vibes?! 🍂

“Hawk & Sparrow” is a standalone YA mystery romance and is out today!

“Sparks fly in this Gilded Age novel of mystery, magic, and romance by the author of the New York Times-bestselling Beasts of Prey.

Vesper Evans has always resented Basalton’s high society, and the sorcery that provides them with a luxurious life unimaginable to most. Orphaned as a child and rescued by the editor of The Basalton Globe, Vesper is now an ambitious reporter determined to keep her newspaper afloat.

While covering a lavish society gala, Vesper happens upon a shockingscene: the murdered body of a man she had spoken with just minutes before. Several of the powerful magical elite may want the man dead, but the primesuspect is wealthy industrialist Maximilian Kite.

Max soon makes Vesper a tempting offer: Find the culprit and restore his reputation in exchange for a substantial fee. Despite her distaste for Max’s world, Vesper agrees—the money would save the Globe, and the story would be the scoop of a lifetime. There’s only one catch: In order for her to infiltrate society, the two must pose as a courting couple.

Their investigation takes them from the highest echelons of privilege to the seediest backstreets of Basalton. As they unearth the city’s secrets and scandals, Vesper finds herself in grave danger—while falling for one of the most infuriating, arrogant, handsome men she has ever met . . .”

It's me! Hi! I'm the problem, it's me! Soooooo I actually finished this beautiful eARC in May but in true Vanessa fashion I am posting about it today, a day before it comes out. I know. I know. Procrastination at its finest.
First of all thank you to @netgalley @ayanagray_ @macmillanusa for this amazing arc.
Let's talk about the book:
This was my first historical fiction piece of the year. Hawk and Sparrow is a Young Adult, gilded age fantasy novel with magic, mystery, and romance. The story begins with Vesper, a young, ambitious reporter. She attends a society gala with Basalton's high society and gets tangled up in a murder investigation. The prime suspect is the arrogant, handsome, intelligent, did I mention handsome, wealthy industrialist Maximillian Kite. In order to clear his name Maximillian asks Vesper for help. Posing as a courting couple, Vesper and Maximillian work together to find the secrets of society's wealthiest and by chance uncover some hidden feelings.
I loved this story. I enjoyed learning about a different era and getting immersed in that world and I loved reading about two very different, very ambitious, very kind characters. This story has everything... magic, history, mystery, scandal, and a little bit of romance. And the murderer? I changed my guess multiple times while reading and I was dead wrong. Quite a twist!

✨ARC Review:✨ Hark & Sparrow by Ayana Gray
Romantic Fantasy | 352 pages
Out Sept 1

The Vibe:
✨ Guided Age historical setting
✨ Murder mystery, historical fantasy AND romance
✨ A struggling newspaper reporter
✨ A wealthy sorcerer
✨ Fake courting

My thoughts:
This book was so refreshing and unique. I mean murder, fantasy AND a little romance!? I really love a good murder mystery, at one point in my life that was all I read. This had lots of great twists and turns and it’s fast pace made it hard to put down. The world building was great, the gilded age setting showcased the haves and the have nots perfectly.

Vesper was brilliant and so multidimensional. She was not afraid to go against the grain and be her own person in a world that wanted her to stay in a box. Her romance and banter with Maximilian was so sweet!

Thank you @netgalley for this ARC! 💕
