🎶 THIS! IS! NEW TONE! 🏁
Finally remembered to share this commission from @badtimerec from 2024 celebrating the film for the first Bad Time Records Tour! It was a blast drawing the iconic @killlincolndc ripping the stage up, @raemystic filming, @umemotrombone13 crowd surfing and the pit features a roster of some rad bands who were on the tour and friends from the Bad Time community. If you’ve been to one of the shows on these tours you know how immaculate the vibes are and how hard these bands work to make great music and put on a show.
Huge thanks to Mike for the request! Go check out the new Bad Time Records shop in New Paltz, NY, opening this fall!!

This was a super limited riso run that I believe was given out as gifts, so the only one I had left has Mike’s name misspelled! Sorry!!!

The anniversary for FERAL passed a few months ago (July 26th, I was camping). I never got to put down my thoughts for this album.
FERAL is the most prepared we’ve ever been as a band going into the studio, and by most bands standards probably isn’t very prepared at all haha. We had three rehearsal sessions. This was the first album Baz provided all of the music for the record, and the first where my role was only as a vocalist. This album felt like a step forward musically. The title FERAL was thrown out early during production, I felt like every take in the vocal booth the rest of the band was asking for me to get more aggressive. Everything about the production on this record has a level of ferocity I’d always wanted for a ska punk album. The dual guitar work from Nick and Ike really contributed to that.
We left two tracks off this album: “Division” which appears on a @selltheheartrecords comp and a reworked version of “Rather Be Alone” from No Faith. Notable about “Rather Be Alone” is that the whole vocal take is live. I tracked vocals live with the band (a first for me) but most vocals were either entirely redone or at least patched up. I could be misremembering, but I don’t think we had to fix this one.
“Bad Radio” is the oldest song on the record, Barry wrote it with @dureste (aka The Captain of Blast Bandits lore). I really like the song but I feel like maybe this wasn’t the album for it. It’s very poppy by comparison to the other songs. That said, it’s fun to play and it was a blast making the music video for it (visit @triviumgames next time you’re in the East Bay for an amazing escape room experience).
Two songs we’ve never performed live are “Drop of Water” and “Absolute Zero”. We have a handful of songs we’ve never played live. “Absolute Zero” was almost left off the album. Originally in my mind, that was the lead off song on the album, potentially the title track. When I heard it back, it didn’t grab me. I felt like I’d ruined Barry’s instrumental with my vocal, but after some time and some positive encouragement from Baz, I came around. “Drop of Water” has backing vocals from my friend Bryan Matheson, of iMusicast infamy.

Saw @freakytales_movie this weekend, at the @grandlaketheater! If you can see it there, I highly recommend it. In case you haven’t heard, Freaky Tales is a fictionalized account of the East Bay in 1987. It’s split into four stories, and the first one tells a fictional account of the punks at Gilman fighting off the Nazis. They built a fake Gilman for the movie, it’s interesting to see. I could see this movie becoming a weird midnight movie at the grand lake.
