Some of the best Peranakan meals aren’t found in fancy restaurants—they’re hidden in neighbourhoods, quietly preserving recipes passed down through generations. ❤️

Tucked beneath a HDB block in Telok Blangah, Makko Teck Neo @makkoteckneo is one of those family-run gems I’d happily return to. While every dish felt comforting and full of heritage flavors, the Dry Mee Siam was the standout for me. This one was fragrant, well-balanced and packed with flavor, with just the right tanginess that kept me going back for another bite.

We also enjoyed the Ayam Buah Keluak, Lontong, Assam Fish Curry, Nyonya Chap Chye, Tauhu Goreng, Ngoh Hiang, Kueh Pie Tee and Pork Rib Pongteh.

But if you ask me, don’t leave without trying the kuehs. Made fresh daily, I especially loved the Apom Berkuah with Pengat Pisang, Rempah Udang, Kueh Salat, Kueh Talam and my all-time favorite, Kueh Lapis. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always enjoyed eating it one colourful layer at a time.

Sometimes, the simplest places hold the richest flavors.
