🌍 One Million Stories. One powerful message: international exchange makes an impact.

At the beginning of September, representatives from Federation EIL members @experiment.ev 🇩🇪 and @eilireland 🇮🇪joined storytellers and changemakers from around the world in New York City for two inspiring days with @made_impact

📍 First stop: Ellis Island.
At the Made Impact Storyteller Day, participants explored the power of personal stories, and how sharing our experiences can connect people across borders, challenge assumptions and make the impact of international exchange visible.

🏛️ Next stop: the @unitednations.
At the Made Impact Summit, the conversation grew from individual stories to collective action, exploring how international exchange, connection and collaboration can contribute to positive change around the world.

For Federation EIL, this message is especially meaningful. For almost a century, our global network has been bringing people and cultures together through transformative intercultural experiences.

Different countries. Different journeys. Different stories. But a shared belief that when people meet, listen and learn from one another, perspectives change and understanding grows. 💙

Now, Made Impact is on a mission to collect ONE MILLION STORIES of international experiences. 🌎

And yours could be one of them.

Have you lived, studied, volunteered or worked abroad? Has an international experience changed your perspective, introduced you to lifelong friends or shaped who you are today?

✨ Your experience matters. Your story matters. Share it.

🔗 Find out more and submit your story via the link in our bio.

Every exchange has a story. Every story has an impact.

From Tanzania to Bilbao 🌍✈️🇪🇸

Some of the Federation EIL family are together this week at @wystc_conference in Bilbao!

@anaeseverri, Director of @aipcpandora, and @bettina_wiedmann, Director of @experiment.ev., are joining youth and educational travel organisations from around the world to connect, learn and share ideas.

And joining them is Kaitin, a Pandora student who spent this summer in Tanzania! 💛

We love seeing the different sides of our network come together, from the people creating opportunities for intercultural exchange to the young people actually living those experiences.

Because behind every partnership, programme and conversation are experiences that help people discover another culture, another perspective and a little more about themselves. 🌏

Have a wonderful WYSTC, Ana, Bettina and Kaitin!

Today I attended the Communities in Action Festival. This was one of my appearances as part of my Miss Teen Cork journey, and I had such an amazing day! 💛

I got to meet so many incredible volunteers and community groups and hear about all the amazing work being done in our communities. One of the highlights of my day was meeting our Lord Mayor, and getting the chance to talk with him.

I’m so grateful for experiences like this and for the opportunity to get involved in my community, meet new people and learn from those who dedicate their time to helping others.

Thank you to everyone who made today such a wonderful experience! 🌸

The word is HOPE, that is what I feel makes a good man after these last few days!

This week I was truly blessed to be attending the @made_impact summit in New York, hosted on the historic Ellis Island and also within the hallowed halls of the UN HQ. I thought myself to be beyond such spiritually charged dialogue but witnessing the strategies of the speakers, the capacity of the organisations and the optimistic potential of the young people in attendance, well it has me all emotional. It was beyond uplifting or heartwarming, it was the embers of hope being fanned into a raging blaze of global storyteller support!

The summit has set a goal, 150 storytellers to search out at least 100 stories each from the people going unseen, to drive intercultural learning and eventually develop a global community built on compassion. The HOPE is to get a million stories and prove that the next generation will grow up in a world of peace and prosperity, to ensure that good news triumphs, to ensure that war is never considered as an option during their lifetime! To start, I will be searching for stories in the heritage and sustainability sector within Ireland, I will be reaching out to many people but if you hold skills and are willing to share your story, DM me, or sit down with me at every sustainability tent event I have going on. If your story was influenced by an intercultural experience, I need you!

My gratitude to @experiment.ev and @eilireland for their work and for supporting my attendance at this years summit, I won't fail to deliver on my end! What good would I be as a @climateambassador if I did?

This July, I attended the Governors institute on Global Issues and Youth Action, in Burlington Vermont. Through the EIL Youth Activist Award, myself and four other Irish young people were given the opportunity to share our perspectives and opinions on various issues with our American peers, and of course, learning from them too.

Each day was jam-packed with classes, workshops and activities, from panels on climate and harm reduction to contra dancing and even a drag show! In the middle of the week we visited the Vermont Statehouse, where I got the chance to work with a lobbyist, and to sit in the Chamber.

I learned so much from my time in Vermont, and I had such an incredible time. Thank you so much to everyone who made this possible - the staff at @eilireland and @governorsinstitutesvt, and to all the people I met. It was a truly life changing experience and I've made memories and friends for life 🤍🇮🇪🇺🇲

🌏 From Okinawa to What Comes Next…

The suitcases are unpacked, but the GYLP experience doesn’t end when our participants arrive home. 💙

For our final reflections, we asked how the programme changed them, what they’ll do with what they learned, and what they’d say to the next group of participants.

First up is Paul from France. 🇫🇷

“During this programme in Japan, I learned a lot of things. At first, it mainly help me improve my english and discover a new culture. However, I also learned a lot about myself. Living with a host family, meeting students from different countries, and working together every day helped me become more open-minded and independent. I also gained confidence when speaking in front of others and sharing ideas.

Now that I’m back home, I want to share what I learned with the people that I know. I would also like to encourage people to be curious about other cultures and to communicate with people from different backgrounds. I also want to get involved again in projects, such as helping organize events or participating in activities.

My advice to future participants is : don’t be afraid to step out of comfort zone. Try new things, ask questions, and talk to as many people as possible. Also, enjoy every moment because time goes by so quicklyy! This programme is a unique experience that can really change your way of seeing the world.”

We think Paul’s last piece of advice says it best: enjoy every moment. 🌏🇯🇵

🌏 Looking Back on GYLP 2026

Next to share her final reflections is Annie Hughes from Ireland. 🇮🇪🇯🇵

For Annie, GYLP confirmed just how much she enjoys learning about different cultures and languages, and gave her some very special memories with her host family.

💬 Annie shared:
“On the trip to Okinawa, my biggest learning was about how I value learning about other cultures from around the world. I was also able to affirm how much I enjoy learning languages as it opens up my ability to communicate with people from all over. I hope to pursue this more when I enter third level education and to choose a course that will allow me to have more interactions with different cultures.

I made so many unforgettable memories during the trip but my favourite memory was definitely the weekend that I spent with my host family. They made such an effort to do things with me and to show me around.

I was really inspired by how welcoming and kind my host family were. Even though I was thousands of miles away from Ireland, they made me feel right at home in Japan. I will never forget the memories that I made with them. I will try my best to be as welcoming as I can to any visiting students in Ireland.”

From being welcomed into a home in Okinawa to wanting to offer that same welcome to others back in Ireland, that’s what cultural exchange is all about. 💚🌏

Such a proud moment at my Project Hub! ✨

Presenting THE LEAP and seeing how deeply the message resonated with people was so special.

A reminder that we don’t need to have it all figured out before we begin. Sometimes, we simply have to trust ourselves, embrace the nerves, and take the LEAP anyway🩷

Action before certainty. ✨
