Not going to hold ya’ll, thnx to @forevergolden_productions I have hella @ejbigbandbbq footage. I just haven’t had time to sit with it for real.

But while going through it today, I saw this moment and had to share with ya’ll. Thanks again to everyone who came out and had a hand in making the night special ✨

So honored to welcome another featured artist to the tribe you will see at TSC MKE on 9/12 (Noon-4PM) … the beloved soul child Emmitt James! You’ve loved Big Band BBQ… you’ve reminisced at Discourse… come ponder a moment next week!

Black August

What is it: A month within a season across time to stand with and on the shoulders of freedom fighters across America through actions of liberation, sovereignty, revolution, justice, freedom and love.

Why is it important: What you remember you don’t repeat. Don’t forget what’s right; don’t forget to fight; don’t forget to read; don’t forget to speak; don’t forget to pray; don’t forget to say thank you; don’t forget to fast; don’t forget to sleep and eat; don’t forget to stay dangerous; don’t forget to love.

A call for celebration: I hope you had a time to remember, reflect and rejoice this August. I did—I made sure I was intentional as to how I spent my time and especially who I spent it with. August is always a time to remember who the fuck I am and how I got here. Thank you to those before me and power to those after! It was a pleasure to learn of the political activism, an honor to support the political prisoners, fuck the police indefinitely!

We deserve joy, Cheers to me and my niggas!

Always a gift to get to witness dear friends like Curtis (@curtiscrumpmusic ) while they're fully in their element.

This time around was even better, because I had the honor of working with him in person during a mini reunion tour in our hometown.

So much love for you, C! Thanks for bringing some of your magic back home with you and for allowing me to capture a piece of it.

About last night...

A few early edits from the 4th Annual Emmitt James Big Band Barbeque (@ejbigbandbbq ) — which filled the Turner Hall ballroom and showcased some of Milwaukee's finest and most dedicated artists, all on one stage.

So much love for these musicians, this collaboration, and the community that's been supported and built around it.

Massively grateful to Emmitt (@emmitt_james ) for bringing us all together and for bringing me into the mix again this year 🙏🏻

As always, so much more to come!
