We got a chance to catch up with Elijah Jenkins after @straysbasketball dominant win over South Shore HS during The Real 16 @smartballnyc. Jenkins spoke on taking advantage of a shorthanded South Shore and making sure they threw the first punch. He went on to speak on St Rays making a statement this season after being either left out or placed near the bottom of rankings of the city’s top teams.

Jenkins also made a bold statement that he believes he’s one of, if not the best player in the city after we acknowledged the strides he has made in his game over the past couple of months.

Jenkins is a senior guard for @straysbasketball whom we got to cover again during The Real 16 @smartballnyc.

Jenkins put on a nice display of his talent in this showing. We know he’s a knockdown shooter from beyond the arc and this game was no different. He hit 5 threes either off the catch or off the bounce from different spots on the floor with ease.

What really stood out to us was his athleticism. On multiple possessions, whether in the half-court or transition, Jenkins finished above the rim. He was dunking off one foot or two feet with ease. We expect Jenkins to put it all together for a strong senior campaign.

Jenkins is a rising senior guard for @straysbasketball whom we covered during the Super 8 @smartballnyc.

Jenkins is a natural scorer. He can get a bucket in many ways. In this showing against a national powerhouse program, Jenkins didn’t have his usual loud performance, but he still put points on the board.

Jenkins got multiple baskets in transition by filling the lanes and having his hands ready, making him a reliable target for his teammates. He also showed he can be a one-man fast break, getting to the rim and finishing with either hand.

Jenkins also showed the ability to absorb contact, as there were multiple instances where he converted at the rim despite taking contact. He would also knock down a catch-and-shoot three for good measure.

When I first started Skills development, it was with @laboutskillz and I was a player in college myself not caring about profit. Years later I’ve seen the impact it had on me guiding and teaching players how to develop based on my prior knowledge and experiences. It led me to creating my own business and working with some of the top players in the Tristate area and beyond between Elementary-Collegiate athletes . If they aren’t yet they will be soon enough. God brought me the opportunity to continue to share my knowledge with players as I am still developing as a trainer myself…but we will continue to build and develop as one 🙏🏾 beyond Thankful to everyone who helped me to this point and who continues to help me pursue my goal to be an impactful Basketball trainer to players ❤️🙏🏾 Summers ending but a new season begins…. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me“ - Philippians 4:13

Jenkins is a rising senior guard for @straysbasketball whom we covered during the 2026 @smartballnyc.

We covered Jenkins multiple times this past season, and it’s safe to say the kid is a natural scorer. He makes scoring look easy. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to get a bucket. He knocks down catch-and-shoot threes consistently. He fills the lanes in transition, where he finishes with layups or dunks.

What stood out during this showing was his ability to create off the dribble. He shook his defender, sold the pump fake, and stepped through for a layup. We would like to see Jenkins display more of his off-the-dribble skill set next season.

During opening night of the 2026 @smarballnyc, we caught a hell of a game between @straysbasketball and mastersbvbb.

From the tip off, @straysbasketball controlled the pace of the game. They set the tone defensively with active hands in the passing lanes, consistently stripping ball handlers, and forcing turnovers that led to easy transition baskets. Their defensive intensity allowed them to build an early advantage.

The momentum began to shift when mastersbvbb star guard Damian Mojica (@d.mo.5) caught fire, leading a scoring run that helped The Master’s School chip away at the deficit and make things interesting. However, their inability to consistently take care of the ball proved costly. St Rays weathered the storm, regained control, and closed out an impressive 73-63 victory.
