POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One of the most meaningful parts of this project for me has been seeing how people responded to these images and, in many cases, finding the courage to put those thoughts into words.

I have noticed that writing a poem, even a very simple one, can sometimes make people hesitate. Some were comfortable with it right away, while others took some time to think about what they wanted to say. Some wrote something, changed it, questioned it, and then shared it anyway. Others thought about participating but never found the right words or the opportunity to submit. I appreciate all of it.

As this project comes to an end, I want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed a poem, and everyone who simply spent some time looking at these images and thinking about what they might say.

I never wanted the poems to be limited by structure. Five, seven, five was never as important to me as the honesty behind the words. What mattered was the feeling, thought, memory, or perspective that someone wanted to share.

What I have appreciated most is that each poem gave me a small glimpse of the person who wrote it. In just a few words, I sometimes felt like I was seeing something I might not otherwise have known about someone. A thought, a feeling, a memory, or simply the way they see something.

That has been a very special part of this project for me.

So, thank you to everyone who shared something of themselves with me. And thank you to everyone who supported the project, followed along, encouraged me, or simply took a moment to look.

I am very grateful for all of it.

These images began as my perspective. Your words allowed me to see them through yours.

North Jersey Photographers’ Exhibition at MORA Museum of International Art in Jersey City!!!

We showed up for the last day of the show while a full-blown nor’easter was trying to cancel civilization.

Naturally, we went anyway.

As artist Frank Hanavan said it best:

“Apparently ONLY PHOTOGRAPHERS are brave enough to dare the nor’easter!”

Honestly, he’s right. Most people see a nor’easter and stay home. Photographers see one and think:

“The wine and cheese!”

So while the wind was doing its absolute best to rearrange the city, we giggled, chatted, ate, drank, and gave away trade secrets like this was a perfectly reasonable thing to be doing.

The show was beautifully curated by Ray Schwartz (@schwartzrays), Tina Maneca (@tinamanecaart), and Joseph Shneberg (@shneberg). Thank you for letting Morán be a part of this gathering.

The nor’easter brought the wind. We brought the art. 🌪️📸

And yes, we survived.

installation portraits from The Exquisite Corpse Show at @nimbusartscenter, captured by @ekamelcom ❤️

My TORSO contribution, Eye Candy (from my Grey Pride series), riffs on the tension between playfulness, attraction, visibility, and who gets looked at in public space, especially within a collaborative exhibition built around fragmented bodies and collective assembly.

Honored to have Eye Candy in conversation with works by @portraits_of_hue (HEAD) and @louravandermeuleart (LEG) to complete the body.

Really appreciated the cross-disciplinary, cross-generational, and cultural exchange that shaped the exhibition, and the chance to see so many different practices in conversation under one roof.

Special thanks to @manecatin for bringing the exhibition together, and to everyone who came through opening night.

For acquisition inquiries, feel free to reach out to me, @nimbusartscenter, or curator @manecatin.

The show runs through June 27. See you at the closing reception.

More from the Grey Pride series is linked in my bio.

It Takes A Small Needle to Sew a Large Suit. (The subtitle of Letters From the Alchemist)

I first learned about this Haitian Creole proverb from a friend 35 years ago when I was contemplating the title for my first solo exhibit while in my senior year at SVA.

A friend offered me this proverb as a description of my work. I may have the proverb a little distorted with translation but have carried it with me through the years and frequently revisit it when thinking about the completion of a work.

Have I put everything I have into the piece?
Is every detail covered?
Have I pushed the piece as much as possible? If the answer is yes, push a little more still.
If the piece is turned inside out, or the vessel emptied, will the soul work be evident?
Or is it transparent as is?

Every little detail was once a very big thought.

Any here you have it.

Also, it was the title for my first solo. 😉
Full circle.
Working my way back to NY.

Visit
Letters From The Alchemist through November 29 at MORA.
