For the first time since I was about 16, I’m unemployed. Sort of. After 18 years as a Professor of English @easternkentuckyu and 11 as MFA Director at @bgwritersstudio (BGWS), I stepped down on July 31. I love my colleagues and students, past and present, and will miss them all, and I’ll forever be indebted to Julie Hensley for bargaining for a faculty line for me at EKU when they wanted her so bad they were willing to take on her long-on-potential-and-low-on-achievements husband as well. And while I’m still the second-best writer and educator in our home, I am the best barista and breakfast sandwich maker, and I’ve acquitted myself fairly well as an academic, author, and administrator these past two decades. And to that end, the administrator part, I’ll continue on starting September 1 as the Low-Res MA/MFA Director at Wilkes University Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing. I’m sad to say goodbye to BGWS, thankful to be able to split my time between KY and PA, and really excited to get stuck in at Wilkes. Here we go!

Allow us to introduce Kyra Mills, Nadia Grullon and Claudia Douglas, three of our four #EKU graduation speakers this spring! At commencement, they’ll be joined by Dyana Jackson, an online graduate student from California, so we can’t wait to celebrate her the week of commencement when she arrives to the #CampusBeautiful. We can’t wait to hear from all of them as they share about the life lessons they learned throughout their college journeys! 🎉🎓

Nancy Holland and I enjoyed treating our two graduating Graduate Assistants @sha.kerra and @sarah.i.morris to lunch at Arlington Club. They have done some outstanding work this year supporting our @ekucollegeofbusiness faculty, staff, and students. Excited to see them continue to make a positive impact throughout their professional careers. Appreciate their thoughtful gifts and the positive marks they have left on the college. #Thankful #StudentSuccess #MBA #GraduateAssistants #Teamwork
