Golden Hour Seascape

Decided to shoot away from the sunset and shoot more towards the south during golden hour the other evening. I slowed the shutter down as well on the rocky shoreline.

Any suggestions for a new ND system (square or circular)

If you just looked at the waterfront cherry blossoms, you wouldn’t know there was a pandemic going on. I’m definitely limiting my time in public now even more since I saw these beautiful blossoms several weeks ago. Life has changed a lot in the past month and I’m looking forward to when it returns to normal. Stay safe everyone 🌸.

Skyfire patterns 🔥.
.
I took this shot during a beautiful sunrise (the only sunrise of 2020) last week as the clouds lit on fire, showcasing these crazy and unique patterns.
.
Last month was a difficult one for various reasons. One of them being the lack of sun in Portland. It was the wettest month in 3yrs, so when this sunrise appeared, it caught the city off guard to everyone’s delight 🌅.

It was so fun getting back outside with my friend @duy_truong yesterday to take pictures together! We enjoyed visiting some old favorites as the wind whipped through the trees during the late afternoon. We even had some leftover snow underfoot as we made our way up trail.
.
Duy is a friend that when we hang out, it doesn’t take any extra energy. I’m a big introvert, so most of the time it takes energy to hang out with people even if it’s doing fun stuff. I enjoy doing a lot of my hiking alone or with one or two really close friends and I’m thankful that Duy and I share the same interest of getting outdoors and taking photos.

Frank and I went to the coast on Saturday to experience high swells, a churning angry ocean and surprisingly beautiful conditions much of the day!
.
One aspect of the Oregon Coast that I’m drawn to is the trees. They have such character because of the stormy weather that hits this area much of the year. This tree in particular caught my eye as a thin layer of mist raced past it just as the sun was breaking through the clouds in the right corner of the frame. The outcome was a scene with amazing mood and atmosphere, so I did very little editing with this image, making sure it would retain the feeling that I experienced while there.

Ocean views 🌊🌅.

As we approach the new year, I have some goals and ideas that I’d like to aim towards in regards to my photography. Currently I’m rebuilding my website which I plan to relaunch in the coming weeks, and with it I would like to spend more time writing. It’ll probably be in the form of a blog on the site. With each image comes a story and I’d like to dive deeper into conveying my thoughts and feelings behind the photos by accompanying them with written form. This will mean focusing less on social media as it has become a big time suck the past few years. I’ll definitely continue to share my work here, but will also encourage you to head to my website for a more well rounded and better viewing experience. I sure appreciate all of you and the continued support and interaction you provide 🙏🏼. It truly doesn’t go unnoticed, so thank you! I’m very excited to see where life goes this next year.

Life comes in seasons. The past couple months has been a difficult one. Our little guinea pig has cancer which requires lots of special care every day which has been draining emotionally and physically. It’s also meant being sick for the past three weeks and not being able to do the activities that relieve stress.
.
I mention these things because this is real life. If you went off of my images I share, it appears like a care free life full of visiting beautiful places and not much else. It’s true that I am incredibly lucky to experience these places, but that’s just a part my life which also includes difficulty, and that doesn’t make for an attractive read. We each have moments and seasons of difficulty, and that’s okay. It’s okay to ask for help and tell someone you are having a hard time or that life kind of sucks right now. At the same time, I have amazing friends and family that are there when I need.
.
This scene was captured back in October as these bare aspens shined in morning light. Though it looks warm, the hour or so before the sun actually showed up over the horizon was very cold and required a lot of walking back and forth 😂.

I am so thankful every day for my wife, my family and friends, and the community of people I have found here. Also the incredible part of the world I get to call home 🌲. This vibrant red maple popped in late October during my last visit to the @portlandjapanesegarden 🍁.

Sometimes you travel hundreds of miles from home to find these types of magical fall scenes where a group of yellow trees stand alone in a sea of fog.
.
And other times such as this image I took on Sunday morning, you capture just 1 1/2 blocks from your front door 🍂😂.
