If there’s one thing better than chasing carp on the fly, it’s doing it with a great group of people.

Schmoots Clooper is one of those weekends we look forward to every year. Catching up with old friends, meeting new ones, and spending time with a community that’s just as obsessed with carp as we are never gets old.

Thanks to everyone who shared some water, a conversation, or a laugh with us. House of Fly is always proud to be part of it. Until next year. 🎣

Winter steelhead are incredible; each encounter leaves me awestruck. It doesn't matter if it's me, an old friend, a new friend, or my girlfriend reeling one in. I don't want steelhead to feel like an everyday occurrence, dulling slightly over time until they feel commonplace. The uncertainty of chasing them with a two-handed rod and a swung fly is part of the magnetism. The outcome is never a given. And in that way, steelheading is more similar to life than I imagined. Stay present, grounded, and in the moment. Repeat. Repeat again.

This winter season I was fortunate to fish with friends, make new friends, and share a beer with friends. And I was able to watch as some landed their first steelhead, a birthday steelhead, and their 2nd and 3rd steelhead. I experienced centering solitude, and quality time with @elizabeth_.grace My mind is clear and my heart is full. Grateful.

30 x 16 feet. The largest piece of art I’ve ever created. A mentor messaged me and said that I was a fucking animal for painting it from a ladder. I can’t thank @davemccoyewa enough for letting me go ham and do my thing on the front of the shop. (And also documenting the process) I also can’t thank all the people who stoped by to say hi or shout out car windows how much they like the mural. It was definitely fuel. I’m pretty pumped on how it turned out to say the least. Especially since I’ve painted. And now I’m thinking of other art forms I’ve done in the past and diving back into them. (Think metals). Anyhow I’ll be on cloud nine for a minute if anyone needs me, and perhaps taking a little rest. Much love❤️

Love these fly fishing shows. Where I can see some new products or places to fish and most importantly, run into old friends. Such as Georgie, here, who dates back to our Kaufman’s days, over 40 yrs ago. And to Bret and Sarge, who took this picture.
