⚔️ Hazañas extraordinarias, luchas memorables, bestias contrapoder e influencers…

It was worth waking at 4 am, not even having time to take off my pyjamas, presenting work at 1 am, staying up all night for online panels, and literally travelling around the world to present my PhD research-creation, AFOA.NZ, representing the University of Waikato at international conferences. The advantage of being a transdisciplinary researcher is that you can address the work from different lenses and approaches!

It was an intense and exciting Summer/Winter 2026 season. Besides all the knowledge acquired, I even won an AWARD! 😊

There were 5 rounds of international conferences (in-person and virtual) culminating in a surprise: an honourable mention in the Creative Works category at the ELO-2026 Electronic Literature conference awards ceremony.

June and July were like that, almost without a break to breathe:

#IFM2026 - 8th Interactive Film & Media Conference (Toronto, CA)

#DigitalHumanitiesKCL – “Digital Humanities Today: Critical Inquiry with and about the Digital” at King’s College London / KCL (London, UK)

#IAMCR2026 - Multimodal Communication Research session at the International Association for Media and Communication Research Conference (Galway, IR)

#AANZCA - Special Session / Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Communication Association: “Margins, Platforms, and Voices: Rethinking Media Power in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand” (Galway, IR)

#ELO2026 - The Electronic Literature Organization international conference 2026 – “ELO (un)supervised 2026 Online Conference and Media Arts Festival” (Orlando, US)

“Twittering, A Procedural Novel” by Talan Memmott remixes text image, audio, and video triggered through keyboard interaction. The piece coexists with a novel that was written simultaneous to the development of this work. Where the novel plays on aspects of time, and draws from sources such as Joyce, Strindberg, Beckett, Dante, among others; the hypermedia textual instrument combines these in a more immediate, collapsed manner.

See the work, now on exhibition at The NEXT and ELO (UN)SUPERVISED 2026.

OUT OF THIS WORLD: An Exoplanetary Workshop
Monica Storss, Northeastern University
Bart Kuipers, SETI AIR

🌍 The creative workshop investigates how scientific constraints can productively defamiliarize human experience and create new frameworks for creativity and expression.

Participants will produce original creative work while considering broader questions about environment, perception, and cultural formation in speculative contexts, and how the arts, sciences, and technology inform each other in relational multiplicities.

This generative creative workshop explores how humans can prepare for a future among the stars, and explore how astronomical data from confirmed exoplanets can generate new poetic forms and linguistic constraints, and examine how exoplanetary conditions can shape language, metaphor, and narrative structure.

We'll develop from writing exercises that respond to non-terrestrial physical parameters: alternative light spectra, gravitational variations, and atmospheric compositions.

🔭 Please note: this is not a science fiction workshop. Kuipers develops tools with his AIR collaborators from @setiinstitute real world scientific data, and Storss develops methods for off-world humanities.

Part of the Electronic Literature Organization Conference.
