The January issue features Alanton resident and our featured Neighborhood Expert Amber Miller, a former Elementary School teacher who currently works part time at Norfolk Academy while pursuing her PhD at the University of Virginia. Her teaching profession led her to discover her passion: helping children unlock their worlds, and understand themselves in it by mastering the skill of reading. For Amber, the key to teaching is understanding each student as an individual. "Armed with an understanding of who your students are, where they come from, and what matters to them, you can cultivate children as thoughtful, caring citizens, and empower them to become lifelong agents of change." Amber also shared recommendations for standout books that she's been enjoying with her own children and sharing with students. Last night was…. I don’t think I have any words for a description! We literally traipsed all over last night and this gorgeous girl was so adventurous! Not only is she beautiful on the outside but she’s even more genuine and kind and beautiful in the inside!!!! I think she might think I’m nuts though 🤣🤣🤣. I was so excited that I was skipping and jumping like a 5 year old the entire 2 hours we were together! Would you even believe me if I told you this isn’t even the best photo?! I can’t even begin to pick which one is though!!!
