Fashion and Textile Museum - Part 1
Two weeks ago - the day after the fabulous and memorable #LondonFrocktails, some of us visited the Ossie Clark + Celia Birtwell exhibition.
We walked from our hotel, and I had the pleasure of walking and chatting with Kathryn @kathryns9296.
In the line outside the Fashion and Textile Museum was others Frocktailers waiting.

We started with a room about Sequinology. Very interesting. I have sewed little with sequins, just as details, but remember my late mother made flower applications with sequins for my dance dresses.

My dress this day was #Birkdress designed by @by_birk working at @tinesolheim_atelier when I participated at sewing courses in the Atelier in 2019. The dress is sewed in fabric from @lillestromsysenter and black velvet.

Many sequinned garments are worned just two or three times, but sequins can last for thousands of years. While working as a embroidery technician of London College of Fashion, Rachel Clowes studied part-time for an MA in Fashion and the Environment. Her research project explored how to make soluble sequins. She is now working on how to commercially develop sequins made from bioplastic and plant-based cellulose. These are some samples on loan from Rachel Clowes, The Sustainable Sequin Company.

Finally, the long-awaited event arrived. Thank you to @londonfrocktails for all their hard work organising a fun event where we got to catch up with like-minded people, meet fellow Instagrammers IRL, show off months of hard work and bop the night away.
How amazing is this- on a trip to Athens last December, I met up with @eleni_sews to go fabric shopping. I saw some lovely liquid satin but managed to resist it- she only went and gave me some last night! I’m so so touched and grateful. Thank you again Eleni. Then, in an embarrassment of riches, I won a raffle prize which I’d been thinking of buying! Thank you to @sew.alison for the 6 month membership.
It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Elsa Schiaparelli so I wanted to make an outfit in homage to her. I tried to incorporate a blend of original and modern touches from the House.
My initial inspiration is from @danielroseberry, @schiaparelli - see photo. Elsa ‘invented’ shocking pink so I was very happy to find this cheap upholstery fabric on a trip to París, where I also bought the navy silk cady. She was an early adopter of the zip - preferably chunky plastic ones, hence mine in the back.
Beading is a big feature in Schiaparelli so this was my first attempt- each of these was individually sewn on- thanks to @zestandlavender for encouraging me.
Schiaparelli worked with many surrealists for whom body parts were important symbols. Thanks to @marianguillenp_ for drawing the hands. I was totally over the moon to find the earrings in a charity shop which I then sprayed. I thought I’d finished there but another visit to the exhibition inspired me to embark on what turned out to be a challenging, lengthy sew to make a turban. I wasn’t convinced about it but was persuaded to stick with it.

A few things went wrong with this dress. When I created the pattern, I didn't consider the neckline. As a result, the newly constructed shirt collar turned out too small, or rather, too short. I only noticed this when I tried it on. Since I'm pretty exhausted at the moment, I was very distracted. I actually sewed the right and left sleeves together! 😵‍💫🤭 That's never happened to me before. I did find a solution for the neckline by using the short shirt collar. 😉 I didn't want to sew it again. But I still couldn't decide which buttons the dress should have.
I have learned: Confidence in my abilities is good but control is better when I am unfocused.
It's my own pattern and fabric from an used duvet cover.

🇪🇦🇬🇧⤵️Cosí este vestido hace varias semanas, y aunque ya estamos en otoño, aún hace buen tiempo para poderlo llevar.
Esta tela bordada la tenía en mi alijo desde hace varias temporadas, al ser tan calada, dudaba que coser con ella, finalmente he cosido un patrón de vestido camisero de la @revistapatrones aunque he modificado las mangas.
En las fotos lo llevo con un vestido corto de tirantes debajo. Aunque con ropa interior en color nude queda bien, incluso para ir a la playa con el bikini debajo y sin cinturón también me gusta.
Le he cosido un entredos de encaje en falda y mangas.

🇬🇧I sewed this dress several weeks ago, and although it's autumn, it's still warm enough to wear it.
I've had this embroidered fabric in my stash for ages, because I had doubts about what to sew with it, so I finally sewed a shirt dress pattern from @revistapatrones, although I modified the sleeves.
In the pictures I wear it with a short strapless dress underneath. Although it looks good with nude underwear, even for going to the beach with a bikini underneath and without a belt, I also like it.
I sewed a lace trim on the skirt and sleeves.

As I told you before, my signature style are feminine dresses, they are my summer uniform, so that

This is my contribution to #sagamschoolseptember by @eleni_sews, @sewing_in_spain, and @suestoney

All kinds of shirts and blouses are my uniform at work, usually worn with jeans. It's nothing special, but it works perfectly well for me.

This blouse is my latest make. It is the Sunday shirt by @annringstrand. It's easy to wear even if it is a little bit too boxy for me. The fabric is a beautiful green linen mix that I received from @yiling.sews many years ago. I definitely have a well equipped fabric stash. Thanks to everyone who sent suggestions for the buttons. In the end, I decided on golden ones.

🇪🇦🇬🇧⤵️Recientemente me suscribí a la membresía en YouTube de Sol @modaenlacostura, Colours for baby, para aprender a coser #puntosmock
Con la suscripción hay muchos tutoriales a los que podemos acceder fácilmente, y a traves del chat, estamos en contacto y es mucho mas fácil.
Creo que aprender este tipo de técnicas le añade un plus de artesanía y eleva el nivel de las prendas.
En esta primera prenda he cosido utilizando esta técnica he cosido #nidodeabeja, que es una de las puntadas smock más sencillas de realizar.
La tela es de mi alijo, comprada en @madaencants

There are many tutorials that we can easily access and, through the chat, we are in contact with Sol and the rest of the subscribers. (In Spanish )
I think that learning this kind of techniques adds a plus of craftsmanship to the garments.
In this first garment I've sewn #honeycomb which is one of the easiest stitches.

🪡 blackwood was a quick sew and the pinafore went surprisingly well considering all the fit issues i usually have with mood patterns as well as their lack of instructions
