My Review:-This is the third book in Eleni Clay's 'Seven Kinds of Love Series'. I wasn't sure if you would have needed to read books 1 and 2 first, but I think author tells you bits as you go along. Katie decides to start a new life and new job for herself in Sweden. Katie opens her email from Dr Swadberg her new boss to say he'll pick her up in the morning for work. Her first day at the university was long, with all the walking and smile she's done, she wanted to talk to someone that spoke in English. She rang Mark her boyfriend. I found that Katie and Mark's relationship was very one sided, Mark's side. after getting the all clear, Katie and Mark started trying for a baby, but Mark was hiding something from Katie, which ended the relationship between them. Katie forms some good friendships at work, but also one that could end everything she has worked for,
I could relate to Katie with her pain and medication, how she needed it so much to get through a normal day and how without it she can't stay focused. Erik and Katie met because she decided to 'dog sit', Erik brought his dog, which had no name until Katie started calling her Bella. Katie and Erik's relationship has many red flags from the beginning but I don't think Katie really wanted to she them, she wanted the happy-ever-after. I'm going to read book 1 and 2, to see if the concept of the story is any different.
There are a few trigger warnings.

Love can heal traumas and re-program hurt bodies into new lives. But when Katie relocates to Sweden, her wounded past keeps on haunting her and drives her into a destructive relationship. Her dream move to a new Centre and a new home spirals into a lived Scandinavian noir. The revelation of her boyfriend’s backstory implies taking a huge risk. Can Katie’s belief in the power of love heal painful memories and grow a compassionate place of resilience? Katie is strong but not as strong as the dark roots of illness and hardship. When fear takes over her, losses are inevitable.

📚 My Thoughts

This is the third book in the Seven Kinds of Love Series and while it can be read as a stand alone I feel you would enjoy it better starting with book one.
I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from the synopsis but I really enjoyed this book. It's mainly about Love, relationships and all the complications and difficulties that come with it.
Do not expect a fairytale romance read with this one, there are a lot of dark topics covered such as domestic violence, animal cruelty, mental health and drug issues so bare in mind triggers.
A well written read with easy flowing chapters.

REVIEW

A really enjoyable read that was well written with a compelling storyline and well developed characters, some of which I loved, and, some of which took longer to warm too.

As someone who has had to travel a lot during my childhood and fit into different cultures I could really identify with Katie and the struggles and small victories she had when trying to immerse herself in the new found Swedish culture. I think that the author perfectly summed this experience up and I remember feeling some of the ways that Katie did several times in my life.

If you go into this expecting a fairytale romance you definitely won't get that, however, what you will get I think works so much better, for me anyway. It is a dark romance with a dark and gripping atmosphere and I couldn't put it down.
I literally did nothing else the day I read this and read it in one sitting. I really enjoyed it

📱E-Book Review📱

The Love Genes
Eleni Cay

🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book totally intrigued me and I was really not sure what to expect having read the blurb and some other reviews.

This is book 3 in the series and the first one I've read.

At first I didn't realise that I was missing anything important from previous books, even when Katie's remembers flashes of her past - but certainly towards the end, I began to wonder whether the things being mentioned could have been the storylines for the other 2 books?

I don't this this detracted too much from what we read here and it did work ok as a standalone.

I found the writing style quite refreshing but also a little confusing at times. The narrative was quite simple and moved swiftly between scenes which meant that I found myself wondering where the storyline was going.

I think the book mainly deals with love and relationships and these were presented well.

Our main character, Katie, is navigating life having relocated to Sweden. She is trying to keep up with her lover, Mark who still lives in UK and due to a few issues, this soon fizzles out and she starts seeing Erik. This realtionship is explored in much more detail throughout the book.

We also see Katie forming new friendships at work, dealing with a manipulative colleague and her divorced parents bickering.

There are some disturbing topics in this book including domestic abuse, drug use, animal cruelty and mental health issues so please do be aware of any teiggers.

Overall, I think this might have read better if read as a whole series. I liked the concept and, now I've finished, I can appreciate the storyline better. I also loved reading about the different culture and seeing a little of the Swedish landscape.

Having not read the previous books in the series I did find myself questioning a little bit what was going on however I found the plot of the book and writing style very engaging and amazing scenery particularly being based in Scandinavia which I found stunning. I found the character Katie quite confusing but also relatable and it was nice to see her starting afresh in a new place.

I would recommend this book to romance lovers out there however it might be best to read the first books in the series for a deeper understanding ☕️

Book #71 of 2022

Blurb

London, 2035: Dr Katie Kuznetsov is a tech-savvy, fresh graduate who’s wrestling with Multiple Sclerosis and is starting her climb up the academic ladder. While watching her parents’ marriage fall apart, she’s battling the old-fashion ideas of her analogue-loving fiancée, Mark. Katie attempts to spice up her relationship with social media dating. She meets mysterious businessman Aron and leaves Mark for the promise of a perfect relationship. At first, Aron seems like an ideal boyfriend, but his constant disappearances and lack of communication make Katie doubt her sense of self. When Katie discovers his secret, her life splinters into micro-aggressions and lies. In addition, she battles a relapse of Multiple Sclerosis, her parents’ untimely divorce, and the breakdown of her relationship with old friends. Can Katie restore her faith in the integrity of people she meets online and off? Will she be able to piece her life back together and repair her belief in the wholeness of love?
Love fragments was an emotional read which dealt with health issues, divorce,, and unstable relationships. What was more relevant is the fact that how social media can ruin lives.
Katie is living with multiple sclerosis and her fiancé takes care of her. But then Katie wants to spice things up and turns to social media!
It’s when Katie plunges into social media dating in spiteof her fiancé being with her, does the ugly side of technology shows up. Social media mostly shows the happy and perfect side of people and when reality hits it affects the person in more than one way.
The characterization is good and the story is easy to follow. I was able to relate to Katie’s character and all the struggles she went through because of her health issues and the impact they had on her life. In some places, I really wanted to talk to Katie about her choices and decisions!
The only thing I felt could have been better was the pace of the story. Initially, I found it a bit slow and felt it picked up speed around the middle.
Nevertheless,Love fragment was a four star read for me.

🌼BOOK REVIEW🌼

This book was an OK read for me. I don't think it was the Story itself that bugged me, but more Katie than anything else. When Katie and her fiance Mark start having issues, she decides to try online dating. She soon meets Aron, the "perfect" guy. Now, Katie has left her fiance and basically abandoned her friends and family so she can 100% invest her time and energy on herself and Aron. But, when Aron becomes distant, Katie starts stalking him through social media. As she learns of his secrets, the truth breaks her. Now, can Katie find herself again, along with making amends with her family and friends? This book does a good job at depicting just how much influence social media has over people, and how they let it happen.⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Love Fragments by Eleni Clay

A huge thanks to @lovebookstours for organising this book tour.

Katie is 28 years old with a PhD psychology specialising with MPD, whilst also living with Multiple Sclerosis. Her fiancé Mark who has been with her through the worst of her illness is ready for their relationship to move further and start having children. During the midst of her studies Katie meets Aron who at first seems like the perfect man leading to Katie ending her relationship. Yet the man who is shwroded in mystery disappears suddenly and more and more often leaving Katie spiraling more each time. Struggling with her parents divorce, her relationship breakdown, Arons constant radio silence and a relapse with her M.S. Katie struggles to piece her life back together.

Initially at the beginning of the book I did struggle for the first 20% or so to get into the story. But eventually it did pick up for me and overall I did enjoy it. The story brought up interesting concepts of social media and it's role within mental illnesses for example. The way in which relationships are discussed within the book both positively and negatively, her relationship with Mark despite leaving him and the aftermath of how to be with someone who is usually a constant within your life as opposed to Aron who completely turns Katie's life upside down and not for the better. The pain from Aron and the way in which he treats her is written really well, the feelings that follow the humiliation etc.

An interesting story nonetheless

The Love Fragments by Eleni Cay

This romance set in a slightly distant future follows Katie - a likable multiple personality disorder (MPD) researcher with Multiple Sclerosis. Her MPD research provides interesting insights and some of the best lines - especially with the heightened usage of social media in the 2030s setting. One of my favorite lines this inspires is “People always have at least two stories going on: one they live and one they want to live.”

This series installment finds Katie in an unsteady relationship and follows her to yet another - all while dealing with parental divorce, and other crisis.

There were multiple times that I felt frustration with her behavior and choices. And at times the text felt belabored and at others too choppy and speedy. But was happy with the ending. Looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Thank you to @EleniCay @lovebookstours @igbooktours for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.
