In 2023, Elevator, the Shanghai club that had run for seven years, held its final night on Nandan East Road. People lined up outside, saying goodbye to the place so many had come to call home. That same year, party collective 4GABBERZ began throwing parties in abandoned spaces, turning empty rooms into dance floors. As one goes dark, another begins to glow. WHEN THE FLOOR GOES DARK, a documentary on Shanghai’s electronic music scene, is out now. Director: Yihong Exa Huang @d1g1h1h Special Thanks: @elevatorshanghai, 4D @dj_4d_ In associate with THE FACE CHINA

My doc short When The Floor Goes Dark, shot in post pandemic Shanghai, drops in China today. It’s the final night of Elevator, the legendary underground club that somehow survived a decade-plus in this city. DJs, promoters, staff, club kids, everyone who ever called it home comes back to send it off, while 4GABBERZ rises out of the ashes. A film about goodbyes. About underground culture dying and being reborn in the same breath. About loneliness, connection, and why we still need places where love doesn‘t need words. Dropping today on The Face China, all platforms. Stay tuned. 👀

BAIHUI UPDATES @elevatorshanghai w/ @whatsfunnyoli Where is home, kid? Departing from their homeland, DJ HURT embarks on a new journey. He often finds a melancholic sense of nostalgia shimmering between shifting tones and textures. As a chaotic Gen Z kid, they yearns for a yesterday that was never his, seeking belonging in heterotopias of temporal dissonance and spatial estrangement. And yet, now, ta dares to believe: he is walking toward home. This modest mix carries with it a fragment of the love he holds close, and the hope for the future. Check out at 🔗BAIHUI.LIVE

Finally home from some touring. It was a joy to play in some of the coolest clubs I've visited, with some very talented people. To anyone who came to the shows in China or @wonderfruitfestival in Thailand, it meant a lot to play my music out there and meet you. I especially want to shout out @sayyes_asia @sayyes_yvonne for guiding me and basically working a second full time job as a translator. Also @my21architect who arranged an appointment and drove me to the dentist (after I shattered my front tooth filling during a meal) before my live set in Dali. I'll treasure that as being probably the most pro experience I've had with a promoter to date New release at the end of the month. Something people have been asking about for a while. @elevatorshanghai @echocatcher @oilshenzhen @jar_xian @djangothehotboy @rve_00000001 @poolsdali @axis.chengdu @wigwam.live @wonderfruitfestival 🫂

It's hard to accept the truth that 2023→2024NYE had finally become the farewell party at elevator. But we have to learn to say goodbye.
