This year was something different. I didn’t know what to expect for both this year and I still don’t know what to expect for 2026. However, what I do know is that this is the youngest I’ll ever be, the most “free” time I’ll ever have, and the most energy I’ll ever have. So, if I don’t go for what I want now, when will I?

This year, was a fever dream😭:

* I shot my biggest project yet, “Cut From the Same Cloth”, an idea I’ve had for about 2-3 years.

* A finalist for the Association of Photographers Emerging Talent Award with my project Cut From the Same Cloth.

* Worked as a picture desk intern at @onlinehyphen, an online publication focusing on Muslim stories in the UK and Europe for 6 months. Throughout the year, I shot 3 stories and a photo essay for hyphen.

* Have my “Sudan 2022” photo licensed by National Geographic. That still blows me away because I have no idea how they found me! 😭

* Do an Instagram takeover for The Photographers’ Gallery, showcasing my favorite photos I’ve taken over the years. Which is insane because I used to think, “how cool would it be if I could do that?” and then it happened years later.

* Shot some cool test shoots/ personal projects, as well as collaborated on amazing projects!! Some personal projects were featured on @photovogue.

* Exhibited my work this year, and most importantly, had my solo debut exhibition, finally launching my project “Banāt Al-Nīl” (Daughters of the Nile). Sold zines, prints, raised money for Sudan, held a panel, and co-hosted a badge-making workshop at @culturehouseorg.

* Finally I facilitated/co-facilitated some incredible workshops at @photographyfoundation.

Alhamdulilah!! We’ll see what next year will bring insha’Allah!!
