Happy birthday to my Oma! The most talented seamstress, knitter and crocheter with the most incredible skill for using up scraps. I'm so thankful we were able to have lunch together today, and that we've been able to spend so much time together throughout my life. Here are some pics of us in fiber festival booths throughout the years - she has always been one of Katrinkles' biggest fans. ❤️🧶🪡🧵

Birthday weekend tidbits
💜A hat I knit for my neighbor: Solitaire Beret by Natalie Larson from Weekend Hats, in @lopiknitting
💜Fun little adventure to real life Hallmark Movie town, Hudson, MA, yesterday. I did some sketching, some eating, and some shopping. The town is so cute and looked so pretty decorated for Christmas, and it even snowed like a snow globe! Delicious beer and tacos from @medusabrewing and I loved visiting our adorable stockist @islaysterraceshop. Check them out for an awesome assortment of yarn, books, gifts and craft supplies
💜knitting socks at @risdmuseum today while walking the @lizzycollins7 show. This was so fascinating that I didn't even end up sketching with @urbansketchersrhodeisland, but did enjoy seeing what everyone else drew

I've always coveted a crocheted flower top that my Oma made for my mom to wear over her gown to a winter formal in high school. It's very small and I've never been able to wear it, so I recently started crocheting my own flowers. Maybe these will end up being a similar cardigan (swipe to see the front and back of the original). There are a lot of awful things in the news but at least there is comfort in making beautiful, semi useful things. ⁠

I'm back at it, crocheting this shawl that was given to me unfinished by my oma. I can see why she passed it on to me, I've only worked on this very sporadically since 2007.

i love that my Oma is making good use of the buttons I made her (There are similar customizable buttons available in my shop if you'd like us to make a set for you or someone else).
These mini socks are two of the skeins from the @schachenmayr Regia advent calendar from two years ago. They're so cute!

I'm a big fan of my Oma.

My Bombus cardigan, before it had a good blocking this afternoon.
The buttons are mother of pearl and are from the button collections of family and friends. From top to bottom the buttons are:
1. from my Oma's wedding suit
2. From my great grandmother Mildred's button collection
3. This one is a mystery and i included it to represent my paternal grandmother, who died when I was 10
4. From my mom's button tin
5. From Evan's mom. This one is neat, it's kind of buckle shaped
6. From Evan's Grandmother's button collection (it may even have been given to her by her mother)
7. From my friend @amy_lynnestagram, who happened to have a tin of the perfect buttons sitting out when I was talking about this last week
8. (Not visible in the picture) a silver button from my friend @alliemurray83
The buttons don't all match but are similar in size. I stitched them on to fade from dark to light.
Pattern: Bombus from @pompommag
Yarn: mohair lace from @violaemily held together with alpaca silk from @blueskyfibers
