This week, @fayewebster announced the third annual Faye Webster Invitational, taking place in LA September 25-27. Our team was at last year’s invitational and got to talk to some of the yo-yoers who helped bring the event to life.

FWI is a statement on why trying to make the coolest thing often requires ignoring what may make something conventionally successful. There’s no reason for Faye to put on an event that highlights the creative potential of yoyoing other than the fact that she really, really cares about it. This is a platform that provides some of the world’s best yoyoers a chance to showcase their artistry with no limitation, and we’d like you to meet those yoyoers.

Introducing “A REAL DEEP DIVE,” a new long-form series where we investigate niche music culture stories.

For our first installment, music journalist and avid yo-yoer @eli.m.smith drove from Chicago to Atlanta with @gabrielledacuycuy & @graham.rowland to experience the second annual @fayewebsterinvitational. Through several interviews with yo-yoers connected to the event, they uncovered some context on Faye’s connection to the yo-yo community, the similarities & differences between professional yo-yoing and music and the significance of the yo-yo portion of the invitational.
