Sound On! Dijonathan has a single out! We wrote and performed our song Man From Another Time in 1 week for the Super Jam at @bottlerocketpgh last Feb, and have since recorded and released it! Check it out on @bandcamp and the @913wyep Local Show this Monday evening! Thanks @eddiep_photos

More reggae but make it Stevie! Stevie Wonder’s music is so wonderful on its own and also functions well as other styles, rhythms, and meters. On the drum tip, I’m covering a lot of bases under the guise of “reggae” : four on the floor, shuffled hihat with snare ghost notes, and shifting the backbeat from 2&4 to just on 3 per the form. To keep it all straight, the best thing to do is play, and always be mindful of the melody! 🥁

All music swings haha! There’s always a through line. It always is a good idea to spend time listening to “the records” of certain genres, because being a member of the rhythm section, you never know what you will get asked to do, and to have to knowledge, depth, and familiarity always pays, literally. In this case, checking out Burning Spear, Augustus Pablo, Pachyman, and the almighty Sly & Robbie helped immensely, giving me rhythms and ideas to play. I’m playing here with @elilangholt and @bayura.musick. We hope to play again soon! 🥁

I’m only a month late with this post but here’s the recap from the Steel City Super Jam 2026! ✨🎶🥁
I had a truly incredible time working with the newly formed and only one week old band DIJONATHAN.
It was quite a challenge to work quickly and with new folks. I got to play one of my all time favorite songs by Bowie and felt really happy and proud of the work we accomplished!
All the bands sounded amazing !! It was super cool to see what direction everyone took with the music.

Huge thanks to @golittlegiant @bottlerocketpgh and @913wyep for putting it all together—to everyone who came out to enjoy and support this event—and extra special thanks to the homies @diegobyrnesart @elilangholt and @henryschultzforreal for bringing top notch energy and effort that week.

Steel City Super Jam 2026 is officially in the books.

The final performance last night truly felt like witnessing Pittsburgh music history in real time.

Four bands that didn’t exist six days ago…
Playing songs that didn’t exist SIX days ago…

I can’t thank WYEP, Bottlerocket, and most importantly, the musicians enough for believing in the process and being brave enough to create music this way. And for everyone who showed up to support the final event last night, thank you, thank you.

The Super Jam may be a new concept, but it confirms what we already know:
Pittsburgh music has depth. It has numbers. It has wildly diverse, ridiculously talented artists who are NOT messing around.

Next year, 20 new musicians will get this same opportunity and I’ll repeat this until we run out. With your support, we can keep doing these for a long time.

I’m proud of this community and that we’re constantly building.
And I’m proud of you 🫶
