POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

"Free yourself from mental slavery" Here is the complete mural at the Santa Clara County Jail. I was proud to create this mural with the help and dedication of a group of relatives serving time. These are their expressions and messages to everyone coming into the facility. You are the only one that can make the choice to accept your mistakes and correct them or to ignore them and accept the system as your home. Poverty, substance abuse and trauma are the main reasons people suffer and get caught up. Their message was simple, you can start by realizing your place and start taking small steps in your liberation by trusting positivity and understanding the arts are there to heal and build confidence in oneself.

I want to thank all of them for reminding me that we are all vulnerable and always at risk in this system, just for growing up in certain areas or for simply being born poor. My work often humbles me and teaches me to never judge others as we all have deal with what life has to offer us on an individual level. All we can do is not give up and try not to take steps back when we finally manage to to move forward.

🙏❤️‍🔥🙏

Nelson Mandela on a doorway for #muralmonday this week. Love the positive, powerful energy in this piece.
And the message.

˚✧₊⁎The Beauty of the Mission District⁎⁺˳✧༚

Last year, I was fortunate enough to visit the Mission District in San Francisco, CA. We were in California to visit my husbands family, and I had heard that there was a huge Latin Community there. So, we found some time to visit!
We went to many places and bought from some lovely stores. However, one thing that stuck out the most was all of the beautiful artwork and buildings throughout the district. I noticed that the artists specifically were of many different ethnicities and backgrounds but chose to display it here. I find that to be quite beautiful! They told many different stories of family, community, history, nature, and love.
I wanted to make this post to share some of them with you!

This collage is made up of photos I took of the beautiful artwork. I tried my best to find and tag all of the creators, but if someone knows who did the untagged peices, please let me know!

There are too many stories
left unread on shelves
being burned, lest we forget
the backs we rode
to arrive here.

This is my friend, Terro, in Clarion Alley (SF). His story is one that inspires me every day, and I’m humbled to call him friend. 📸 captured by me.

One of these shots will be featured in @monadnyc Capturing San Francisco exhibit, Saturday June 13th. DM if you want deets!
