Y’all, I’m so excited to be sharing Places on the Way: A Poetry Road Trip edited by @saralikesbooks and releasing with @juneroadpress 11/10! Thank you for sending this beautiful anthology my way! • From the pub: A one-of-a-kind cross-country American road trip in poems. A hundred brilliant poets. Poems of place, stasis, and journey. Think of it as a mixtape, a cross-section, a field notebook, a tour. Retro in the sense of textured and authentic. Reaching through time, wide-ranging, freewheeling, full of what it means to be human around here. A wild and moving ride. What makes the idea of a cross-country road trip so compelling? The open road is possibility. The continent is vast, the destination beside the point. It’s about presence and place, the intersection of lives and landscapes, experience and connection. This book translates that big-sky spirit of freedom and discovery into a journey in another mode: poetry. The hundred poems gathered here are full of grit and kitsch and wisdom, longing and soul and local flavor. To come along on this ride is to dance on a New York City rooftop at sunrise, commune with saguaros and ancient bristlecone pines, visit ghost towns and the world’s tallest barber pole, and meet an indelicate Floridian inner-tube guide named Jerry. Across these pages are roadside motels and tourist traps, cars set on fire and driven off cliffs, moonshine and deviled eggs and gestures toward the infinite. A poetic cross-section of a wide and complicated country, this collection ranges from shorelines to cornfields, over mountains and canyons and deserts and the highways in between, exploring as it does the larger meaning of departure and return, rootedness and movement, liminal spaces and home places. There’s harmony and mess here, grief and joy, lost loves, found selves, and this is something poetry can do: remind us where we’ve been and where we’re going, how the places we inhabit shape us, what we’ve left behind and what we’re bringing, all of us travelers. • Pre-orders are open for this one! Swipe for a peek at the interior ➡️ • I will tag as many contributors as I can 🖤

Enjoy poems from Elina Katrin’s collection Overwintered (@triohousepress , 2027) -- full poems available on the blog, link in bio. Katrin is a Syrian-Russian immigrant poet who lives in Los Angeles. Her poems are characterized by themes of immigration, dislocation, and cultural hybridity. This hybridity is likewise evident in the mixture of languages, as she incorporates Russian and Arabic into her English-language poetry to reflect her multiple identities. The three poems featured below showcase these themes. Overwintered is scheduled to be released in February, 2027, and you can preorder it, which helps both writers and their publishers. #booksbooksbooks #poetrycollection #booksof2027 #immigrantpoetry Dark text on pale green background and book cover on the right.

Join us in our upcoming generative writing workshop with Elika Katrin on September 19th! This generative workshop invites you to inhabit the contradictory truths, exploring the craft of erasure alongside the liberation or fear the form can evoke. Through official documents, pharmaceutical labels, correspondence in fractured heritage languages, and self-erasure in response to political pressures, we’ll learn and practice strategies for finding agency and breath within the redacted and the revealed. Facilitator Elian Katrin is a Syrian-Russian immigrant writer, author of Overwintered and If My House Has a Voice, with her work appearing in numerous journals. 📚✨📝 Join us in person at Beyond Baroque at 11:00 AM. Tickets available on Eventbrite through our link in bio.

Elina Katrin was selected as the runner-up of the Shō Poetry Prize for her poem “Beach Day with Tsvetaeva,” forthcoming in Shō No. 9 (Summer 2026). This poem will also appear in her debut full-length collection “Overwintered” (forthcoming from Trio House Press, 2027). About this Poem: Reading Marina Tsvetaeva, I found so much kinship with the poet, even though her life in emigration was so different from mine in immigration. Then, suddenly, the sheer act of comparing our experiences existing outside of Russia felt absurd to me, the inherent ridiculousness of comparing my life in America to the extent of Tsvetaeva's suffering. I wrote "Beach Day with Tsvetaeva" almost as an apology letter to the poet, a medium that allowed for honesty, and the contrast of our lived experiences could be slightly more justified. The poem begins with “a fusion of inspirations and sinews,” which is a line I imperfectly translated from Tsvetaeva’s “Рас-стояние: версты, мили…” (“Di-stance: versts, miles…”), a poem she wrote for Boris Pasternak when she was in the Czech Republic and he lived in the USSR. Elina Katrin (@elinatkatrin) is a Syrian-Russian immigrant writer. She’s the author of Overwintered (forthcoming from Trio House Press in 2027) and a poetry chapbook If My House Has a Voice (Newfound, 2023). Her work has appeared in Electric Literature, Poet Lore, Poetry Daily, and elsewhere. A recipient of scholarships and fellowships from Lambda Literary, Vermont Studio Center, and Periplus, she works and organizes with Mizna as an Assistant Editor. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Hollins University and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA, with a dream and her cardigan. #poetsandpoetry #poetry #poetrydaily
