Discovering NYC talented artists: Elinor Shapiro, (born 1997 in Los Angeles, CA) is a multimedia artist whose spontaneous process results in thought provoking works that affect the viewer deeply. A native of Los Angeles, she studied fine art at California State University Northridge, where she developed her individual voice using charcoal, pastels, ink, acrylic, and oils. She then relocated to France, where she is Associate Director at the artist residency Chateau Orquevaux. In the midst of the pandemic she temporarily moved to New York City where she is self-isolating and pursuing new forms of expression, combining words, figures, and emotions to represent the many facets of her artistic voice.

“My practice in the studio is wild and impulsive. I work on top of large pieces of canvas, unrolled on the floor and listening to fast paced music. The canvas itself is worthless, there is no sentimentality, no delicacy. I walk across the fabric with a piece of charcoal, slashing and scribbling impulsively. The figures in my work are raw and disconnected. The combined mediums give me the ability to render them with detail and disintegrate them with line. Like a code there are words and phrases layered into the paint. These words are an echo of conversations and thoughts, their meanings not meant to be known but felt.” @elinorshapiro

A selection of works by Van Rensburg Galleries Artists
We have all been waiting for a Glimmer of hope to shine through, the faint light on the horizon, a hopeful sign that the world will start again. We have all struggled over the last 15 months and of course there are still challenges, but finally there is a Glimmer that life is on the verge of returning to a new normal. To celebrate this feeling of hope we have put together a selection of works from our summer series of exhibitions.
Peruse these artists work from all over the world, individual voices shown together, with an eye towards the future.

Elinor Shapiro talks about her work - Stone is an exploration of the duo. Two figures occupy the space with calm tension between them. Impulsive lines draw the viewer into the eyes of the woman. Her stance is strong. The two figures in Stone are frozen together in unspeaking silence that speaks volumes.
