Can you Help me? In May I will be taking 4 months of  unpaid leave from my NHS work to lead this amazing charity project‘’Roots to Relief’’ and I need your support x When the war broke out in Ukraine I started receiving messages from my home country Poland, from my friends, families but also from my professional colleagues. All  asking the same question: How should we support others in crisis, how can we prevent trauma and post traumatic injury? How do we do it ? we can't even speak the same language? Can you share your tools and techniques please?     Years of working in a traumatic environment, supporting individuals and groups in crisis led me to a deep understanding of the value of immediate trauma support in a variety of settings and spawned a prison project as well as other local trauma relief efforts. At the end of February I set up the ‘’Roots to Relief’’ project to bring simple somatic tools for trauma relief, resilience and stabilization to aid workers, communities and refugees in Poland and Ukraine. We are heading to Slupsk Poland- my hometown  to provide support, education and training for their emergency services, aid workers, and communities involved with assisting the incoming refugee population so that they can provide acute trauma relief alongside the other essential services they are providing. We are also going to offer direct support for Ukrainian refugees including orphans providing acute trauma relief. A bit of a work in progress re: wording, but this is something I’ve learned after a long time of journeying within and befriending my whole self… ♥️ …darkness is sacred. ♥️ Growth can feel intimidating and scary. Uncovering, unearthing, bringing issues up, discovering, admitting…can feel so confronting, we sometimes keep huge parts of ourselves in our underworld and then label our soul with a “Do Not Enter” sign. ♥️ But when we risk journeying within our being, we find provisions, treasures, seeds, light switches and you know what else? Love. ♥️ Love abides in the dark and it abides within us because both are sacred, whole, and beautiful entities. ♥️ When I sense there’s something I need to go deeper with, I try to remember entering the cellar with my granddad to store newly canned fruits and veggies from the garden. ♥️ I would hover above the floor’s opening to the underworld of his and my grandma’s house and say, “It’s so scary down there!” ♥️ And he would turn on the dirt stairs, smile and say, “There’s nothing scary about these delicious foods we get to store for winter! The darkness protects their flavor! Plus, there’s a light switch. And if you’re still scared, take my hand. I’m an iron chicken after all!” which was my family’s shorthand way of saying, “We can do hard things even when we’re scared.” 😂 ♥️ I know @fionalynne has a Winter Solstice online retreat on sacred darkness right now. You might enjoy looking into that. ♥️ And my friend @elisabeth_fuchs_ hosts inner journeys framed by myth regularly. I sit at her online table a lot, kicking around the dark with story and other women. It’s beautiful! ♥️ Sometime I’ll tell you how much I love Persephone and Demeter and how I still write essays on them even though there’s no teacher assigning them anymore. 😀 For now, may you feel like an iron chicken! Go within and venture the sacred darkness in you. There’re some delicious preserves down there and some seeds you may want to bring to the surface and plant soon! ♥️

Friends I am absolutely heart-broken over what is happening in places like Afghanistan, Haiti, and Myanmar 💔. Over the next several days I will be posting prayers as one way we can respond together to these and other painful places in our worlds. These will be simple prayers that run deep. Prayers that stay in our hearts and on our lips to be uttered all the day long. Add to them as Spirit leads you, and invite others to join. Our first prayer is this: God, Guide & Provide. Guide people to safety. Guide worldwide leadership personnel to just action. Guide helpers and supplies to those in need. And confuse those that come to harm, guiding them AWAY from their intended targets. Provide safety. Provide refuge. Provide open roads and means to escape. Provide a way where there is no way. Provide courage. Provide faith. Provide help in time of need. Provide strength. Provide resources. Provide wisdom. Provide your presence so no one, no one faces these things alone. Every week I meet with this group of women to talk about our past week, our hopes for the coming week. This is my weekly examen group part of The Light House founded by @christiannesquires. ⁠ ⁠ I showed up today with my tears. This morning I heard about a pregnancy and for some reason this one really hit me hard. As one friend put it, grief isn’t always logical — it comes out of nowhere.⁠ ⁠ Another friend noted that on her zoom screen I was in the center, like I was being held and surrounded by them. Another friend saw the same thing, took a picture and sent it to me — just so I could see the image myself.⁠ ⁠ Part of caring for myself (or living in the midst of the grief) means paying attention to what I need. When I got the news this morning I reached out to a friend, then I changed my clothes and got on the treadmill. At one point I was running, crying and wondering if this was a safe endeavor. However, I knew that moving my body would help me process my emotions.⁠ ⁠ I was tempted not to go to this meeting because I had another 2 hour meeting afterward, but I’m so glad I showed up. Part of caring for myself is letting my pain be seen and witnessed, so that I can be loved and cared for by those who love and care for me. ⁠ ⁠ It’s not easy but being seen in those hard moments helps me find more love for myself. ⁠ ⁠ Do you have a trusted friend or friends that you can be seen by? Today is the day I can share my very exciting news of my new course which launches on the 25th January! In the last 20 years in my work as a clinical nurse and coach in cancer care, I have witnessed thousands of individual life’s being thrown into what we might call learning how to navigate a VUCA Reality, and often with no prior warning or preparation. Life circumstances happen and we are forced to adapt. I have observed and learned from these situations, and through my own continued research and studies, to better understand how we can make tangible sense and move forward through these complex and non linear situations. A question I hear often from men and women is 'what exactly is self-care and how do you do it?'. At the heart of self-care is your relationship and connection to self; it means that you understand what you need to be your most constructive, effective, and authentic self. Therefore, rather than defining self-care narrowly as just physical health (which is an important piece of the equation), you need to pay attention to a wider set of criteria, including care of the mind, emotions, relationships, environment, time, and resources. Balance is the key here, so make peace with your inner critic and cut yourself a break. Recharge throughout the week — make sure you’re getting enough sleep and time with the people who boost your mood. Protect your thinking time, celebrate small successes as they occur, and learn to notice when you’ve started slipping out of self-care mode. You know the saying ‘when you buy something from a small business an actual person does a happy dance’? Well for me, receiving glorious feedback like this ☝️ makes me do the same. 💃🏼 I mentioned the other day how my inner voice was being a bit naughty at the weekend, telling me I was too this and too that and various other silly things. But when kind words like this slide into your inbox, it confirms that we really shouldn’t listen to our negative internal chatter (in yoga it’s called your Citta Vritti) because chances are it isn’t true and there are people out there who think you are all kinds of wonderful. 🥰 Do your thoughts get naughty sometimes too? (And if your mind went to the gutter just then, get it back out! 😉).

A reminder to us all as December approaches, we can do anything but not everything!! When I wake up in the morning, love . . Bill Withers, Lovely Day is featured in my ‘fun’ playlist.. (happy to share it’s on Spotify) . . I have so many playlists - melancholy, rest, fun and so on. When I’m really feeling it I’ll pick a song and absolutely sink it into that feeling - it is so freeing - whatever it is. We’ve all been there. The old ‘thought’ train.. where we have the premier seats (in this case more head room to think and over think and ruminate and...you get the message). But I’ll let myself indulge in that space and acknowledge that it’s physically not possible to run through a field of wildflowers or strawberry’s drinking champagne every single day. If you do - what’s your secret? If you don’t then I say take the win - and be aware of your moment of joy of bliss of love of acceptance of abandonment of being held - enjoy it. No guilt. No ‘why me’. It’s a good feeling and Bill Withers does it for me every single time. . You may not have a field of wildflowers to run through every day but you are here now. Perfectly enough. My wild and playful soul is no joke and yours isn’t either. Imagination and wildness are big parts of the examen as I was taught them. ♥️ We are asked to connect to our truest, deepest selves through friendship, trust and integrity. We’re asked to imagine life lived freely and boldly as we are and then take steps to unveil our real selves, embody them, and serve with them. ♥️ We’re told this is wild and risky. We’re also told we’re equipped for this journey. We do a little every day when we do the examen. And we do it with Love. We’re not alone. ♥️ Yesterday, I had the pleasure of talking about what a Wild Contemplative is with @noellecrollins @cinner16 hosted by @christiannesquires and other wild women. I shared a picture of my wild and playful soul and her graffitied, unapologetic truths. Want to see my relationship with Love? This is it. ♥️ Maybe it looks absurd or childish. Perhaps it seems inefficient, uncultured, uneducated, simple, silly, and not serious. I’m fine with that. ♥️ In my experience and study, imagination, wildness and playfulness have often been diminished and dismissed as unnecessary. For me, they are the foundations of my spiritual understanding. ♥️ These are the traits that help me see beyond fear and through my ego. My wild and playful soul is 100% contemplative-an unbridled and fierce connection to the divine in all things no matter what my “cultured” mind says to the contrary. ♥️
