Bakers in Training 👩‍🍳❤️👩‍🍳

With Sept. 13th being Celiac Awareness Day and Sydney starting her senior year of college, I've been wandering down memory lane, thinking of experiences that shaped my daughter into the beautiful person she is today. 👧💖

I ran across this photo of a "baking session" set up by friends who understood the challenges we were facing with Sydney's celiac disease. Samantha purchased these aprons and chef hats along with ingredients for gluten-free cookie dough, so that all the girls could mix up their bowls and sample them without Sydney being left out of the fun. I think of all the laughter our daughters (and the moms) shared that afternoon and how much this day meant to Sydney (and me). What a special gift true friends are! 💕

I wrote about this joyful time in my memoir, Celiac Mom. If you'd like to read more about how our family was challenged and blessed by the experience of celiac disease, follow the link in my bio. 📚

Wishing everyone a Happy National Celiac Awareness Day! 💚

Life update:

so for the past two months, I got to experience something amazing. 8 of us from 3 different universities in Florida got to join together and head to the Philippines! We were selected and sent to restart the Navigator campus Ministry at the Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U). We had help from a few CIT students: Fherlyn, Jake, Nath, CJ, and Andrey who were able to get us on campus. In just two months, we were able to build so many relationships and we got to be a part of real life change. It was absolutely wild to see how much God is doing in the Philippines and I’m so thankful I got to play a small part in that.

Going from the U.S. to a 3rd world country that’s 12 time zones away wasn’t as easy as expected. It was tough being 9,000 miles away from home, with no AC, in a place we really didn’t understand, for 2 months time. But we grew to love the country and especially love the people. The hospitality and generosity of the people we met was so special. There’s many things I want to bring back from the Filipino culture, and genuine kindness is one of them. The people there had much less material things compared to people in the U.S. and yet they were so joyful. Hearing and seeing the hardships they face was heartbreaking, and yet encouraging to see how well they react to it.

There were so many memories made and so many people met that I now consider family. I praise God to have been able to be part of this trip and with our team! I hope I can go back soon.
